Conversation Notes

  • LJ discusses his recovery process from the foot injury that sidelined him for a good portion of the past season. He’s out of a boot and expected to be full speed somewhere around August.
  • We discuss his advanced stats from the past season: 47% from 3 but higher percentages in conference and against A competition. He was 90% from the foul line in conference and 70% at the rim. He sheds some light on what he hopes to accomplish in the year ahead.
  • We discuss the game at West Virginia on the road where Adam and LJ shared point guard responsibilities with James Akinjo sidelined by injury and how that game might be a preview of what we can expect this season in scoring a season high 77 points on the road in a conference game.
  • We discuss the 2021 national championship team and the competitive fire that team had and ask the question, are we “too nice” this season? LJ refutes that notion and explains why.
  • He discusses his friendship with Jordan Lewis and how he is spending his free time during the summer.
  • LJ answers Truegreen’s question of what motivates him? Wanting to win championships, the sacrifices his family has made for him and wanting to play in the NBA.
  • LJ answers Sevenmilebeachbob’s questions of what percentage recovered he is? He expands on why it will be helpful to have multiple ball-handlers to take advantage of defensive weaknesses. He answers what he expects from shooting percentages- he wants to be over 90% from the foul line. He wants to make at least 500 threes a day.
  • His hardest class was Psychology - a lot of reading. He didn’t have an answer for favorite class. Expecting to graduate in 2024.
  • LJ talks about how Davion Mitchell’s practice habits had a big influence on him.
  • He says he would definitely not go camping in Jurassic Park (Edmond Bear) due to a phobia of a lot of animals.
  • He thinks having cameras all around during Our Time was a bit of a distraction to the routine. He’s not a big spotlight guy.
  • He discusses how easily Keyonte George has assimilated to the team and the new guys in general buying into the culture of Baylor basketball.
  • He’s looking forward to Gonzaga, the Vegas tourney, Kansas, Texas Tech and the rest of conference game.
  • LJ shares his thoughts on all the inter-conference transfers

Good interview Ashley.

Still concerned he will be ready by August. He didn't sound super optimistic and he appears adamant to play "pain free". Don't know the details of what he had done so this statement may be out of ignorance... but, at some point he may need to play through pain as he may never be completely "pain free". Especially if he wants to be an "Alpha Dog"

stress fractures. August could be a moving target but I'd be surprised if he's not full speed in September. Same for Langston Love.
