Baylor totaled 5,913 total yards on offense in 2021, averaging 422.4 per game and 6.3 yards per play. Whether the offense was pounding the rock with Abram Smith or rolling out under Gerry Bohannon, the Bears’ developed an efficient wide-zone scheme in year one under Jeff Grimes. Opponents had trouble stopping this deadly combination, allowing for BU to average 6.3 yards per play on the year.
In ten of Baylor’s fourteen games, the offense totaled over 350 yards. The Bears' offense had over 400 yards in seven of the contests, including a 714-yard performance against Texas Southern.
Abram Smith was a leading contributor to the impressive 6.3 yards per play. The Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Honorable Mention recorded 1,601 rushing yards on 257 attempts for an average of 6.2 yards per play.
Trestan Ebner also added 799 rushing yards on 148 attempts for an average of 5.4 yards per play. While having a total of 284 receiving yards on 28 receptions for an average of 10.1 yards per catch.
Quarterback Gerry Bohannon threw for 2,200 yards on 173-for-275 passing for an average of 8.0 yards per throw. He also ran for 323 yards on 76 attempts.
