Kendall Kaut already covered a lot of this ground.  But some quick hitters.

  • Dale Bonner was my MVP for both ends of the floor.  He must have had 8-10 total deflections on defense.  And terrific job dissecting the defense and setting up teammates.
  • The performance of our triplets:  Flagler, Cryer, George has been discussed.  They look tremendous out there.
  • Rebounding 52% of our misses on the offensive glass was great to see.  Drew mentioned how pleased he was with that and how much we emphasized it after the A&M scrimmage.
  • We are making a concerted effort to play faster and get to the free throw line.  Two thumbs up in both areas in our first game.  You have to have a lot of possessions to score 117 points and we got to the foul line 43 times.
  • Dantwan Grimes will have 3 years to play 3 after redshirting this season.  Drew called him possibly our best on the ball defender and has a bright future at Baylor.  Mature decision on his part.  Excited to see his development.
  • Jordan Turner (sprained wrist) should be back soon.  Austin Sacks broke his leg in a recent practice and is out 10-12 weeks.  Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua has been going through drills and is continuing to attack rehab with purpose.
  • Langston Love had a great second half.  Some really sound defensive plays on his part.  Athletically he has a ways to go but is a smart, skilled player who is very strong.  I think he has a higher ceiling than King McClure.  But right now, he reminds me of King McClure on the court.  Once he’s another 3-4 months away from the injury, I think he will be much better.
