The 1-3-1: No. 18 Baylor (12-4, 3-1) at West Virginia (11-4, 2-2)

After getting upset at home 70-65 by a scrappy Oklahoma State squad, No. 18 Baylor (12-4, 3-1) heads to Morgantown for a 2:00 p.m. tip against West Virginia (11-4, 2-2). If the loss to the Cowgirls proved anything, it was that this might be the deepest the Big 12 has been on the Women’s side in years, as every team has at least one conference loss.

Here is the 1-3-1 on the Bears vs WVU.

One Player:

Everything West Virginia does runs through fifth-year senior guard Madisen Smith. The South Carolina native notched her twelfth double-double of the season during Tuesday’s 75-45 victory over TCU.

Smith led WVU in scoring for the fifth time this season, recording 18 points and shooting 5-of-9 from the field (55.5%). She also added eight assists, as well as a pair of steals.

Three Nuggets:

● Baylor holds an impressive 22-3 ledger in the all-time series with West Virginia and is a perfect 9-0 in Morgantown.

● The Mountaineers are 7-1 at home this season, suffering their only loss at the WVU Coliseum to Oklahoma, 98-77.

● WVU is led by Dawn Plitzuweit, who is in her first year with the program. She most recently served a six-year stint at South Dakota, who upset Baylor in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

One Quote:

Following the loss to Oklahoma State, head coach Nicki Collen spoke on the challenge ahead as the Bears look to bounce back in Morgantown.

“I mean, it's not easy to play in West Virginia. We played well there last year but there’s a lot of new faces for them with a new coach as well,” said Collen. “They get a lot off their bench, and their bigs  (Savannah) Samuel and (Jayla) Hemingway have been really good this season.”

“We're gonna have to work to score, we're gonna have to make them work,” continued Collen. “We're gonna have to contain their guards and keep (Kylee) Blackstem from scoring around the rim and we're gonna have to keep the ball away from the corner.”

Watch/Listen

The contest between the Bears (12-4, 3-1 Big 12) and the Mountaineers (11-4, 2-2 Big 12) airs nationally on ESPNU, and will be the second nationally-televised game for Baylor this season.

A live radio broadcast is also available for fans on the Varsity Network App and live in-game updates will be provided via Twitter or live stats.

You can call it nonsense, or whatever you like to minimalize our trend downward, but it is a real sign of concern when we drop out of the top twenty-five for the first time in almost twenty years. And, have you watched the last couple of games and seen the way we are playing? Do you watch the games? It ain't pretty.
painfully boring and one dimensional. Did you see the three from the corner ... from the to top of the circle? Or what about the random opening the occurred during a scramble play that resulted in an off balance shot that miraculously went in. Against good teams, we are not good. I don't care that we beat UTSA by 40. We should be beating them by 70. We refuse to carry a lead and expand on it, and therefore are now happy with a 20 point victory over a subpar team. We are a middle of the road team, competing in a middle of the road conference. People refuse to comprehend that Baylor was far and away the best team in the conference for years. The rest of the teams battled day in and day out. We did not. We are now on their level. It's a reality we must get comfortable with. Mulkey losing to OKSt. at home would be embarrassing. If CNC refuses to acknowledge that embarrassment because Andrews as "off" she need to close the door behind her. She isn't cut out for this sport.

Don't blame Coach Nicki for our girls shooting 3-40 from 3.

She runs an offense that allows for 3-40. She is literally the one you hold responsible. Cater your offense to your personnel. That is case and point the responsibility of a coach.

So what would you suggest if we aren't perimeter oriented?? Throw it into Bickle every possession? She's not Kalani. Those girls need to knock down their open 3s and stop turning it over!! I'm sure CNC never discusses that. Sheesh…
