Reasons for Optimism
- Baylor is playing well and just missing shots they normally make
- Baylor’s defense continues to improve, especially in not allowing easy buckets in transition.
- The Bears are doing a lot of great things offensively, making free throws, grabbing offensive rebounds, getting quality shot attempts. They’ve just had a stretch where shots aren’t falling at the same rate they were earlier in the year mostly due to some cold shooting stretches from Flagler and George.
- The return of Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua in February is still a strong possibility and he can give this team a strong lift down the stretch. The future is very bright for Josh Ojianwuna but he is still making a lot of mistakes on the court that Jon probably doesn’t make.
Reasons for Concern
- Losing your first 3 conference games is a hole to climb out if you want to win the league. Only two games back at the turn but a lot is out of Baylor’s hands the next 9 games unless Baylor wins all 9 of those games. In that case, Baylor will win the Big12.
- As good as our guards are, it seems like we settle for shot attempts that we shouldn’t settle for. Okay, good, better, best. Would love to see better ball movement and more effectiveness using our bigs as rollers to the rim and finishing at the rim. Perhaps the addition of Tchamwa Tchatchoua has an impact here.
- We were in a good groove health wise and then Love misses a game with the hip issue. Would love to see a healthy, cohesive team the next 9 games.
