Baylor Soccer Adds Goalkeeper from Transfer Portal
WACO, Texas -- Michelle Lenard added a grad transfer to the goalkeeper room on Wednesday, as Baylor announced former Nebraska and Oklahoma goalkeeper Makinzie Short would be joining the team.
Short, a 5-foot-11 shot-stopper with 23 appearances and 18 starts in her time at Nebraska, is a great addition to the position group for the Bears.
Her mix of length and experience was absent from the goalkeeper spot last season.
Despite not playing last year for the Sooners, I expect her to come in and be in serious competition for the starting spot in the fall.
*Correction: Makinzie was a starter and captain for the Sooners for 9 games last season before an injury. The Sooners’ website does not list any stats for her on her bio or the team stats pages. She won the first Big 12 goalkeeper of the week award this past season.
Originally from Erie, Colorado, Short played for the Real Colorado Developmental Academy during high school as well as FC Boulder.
Short an Academic All-Big Ten award in 2021 and a Big Ten goalkeeper of the week award as well.
With Baylor weeks into the Spring semester, I am assuming she will not join the team in time for the Spring exhibition slate, which is just a couple of weeks away.
The first exhibition is set for February 25th against Navarro here in Waco.
