You would think UCSB was poised to win at all after listening to this interview. Good on him for knowing his team and being passionate. I don't think he was necessarily disrespectful to the Bears, but our defense metrics are somewhat a product of our league, you can't say the same about the Big West. To say they both have "bad defenses" is. totally accurate, but context of what league they play in is more important than this guy is letting on. Sure, UCSB could come out guns blazing and win the game, no doubt, but I would take the Bears 9 out of 10 games, it's when that one happens that concerns me.

This was the headline in the sports section of the Waco Paper this past weekend:

"Bears excited for fresh NCAA start"

One would hope they are more than just excited--what team is not?

While I think we will win handily against UCSB, the comment about the bad defenses holds true. Our defensive deficiencies were not just because of the Big 12. Go back and look at the non-conference metrics of the various stat services and it is plain that our defensive efficiency wasn't really any better against non-conference opponents when compared with Big 12 only stats.

Anyone who watched the VA or Marquette games know better. And while Marquette has a very good offense.. Va's (offense) isn't any good at all.

Our defense was very good in some games this year, especially UCLA, Gonzaga, & the Texas game in Waco. If memory serves, the wins over Arkansas & Kansas had good defensive performances as well.

The problem was that those flashes were few & far between. With a better defense we probably would not have been swept by Iowa State or K State, would have beaten both purple teams in Waco, & might have won in Lawrence too.

Pretty sure if he's in heaven, he can walk. Oh, and the jokes there are fresh.
