Adam Flagler Declares for the NBA Draft

WACO, Texas – Baylor senior point guard Adam Flagler has declared for the NBA Draft per his Instagram.

The thank you messages contained in the post make a return to college basketball look unlikely. Flagler would be foregoing his last year of eligibility to pursue his professional dreams if he does not return.

The unanimous first-team All-Big 12 guard was the leader of the Bears’ attack over the last two years after being the first guard off the bench during the 2021 National Championship run. Through his time in Waco, Flagler helped Baylor win back-to-back Big 12 championships as well as earning multiple weekly conference honors and national watchlist selections over the last two seasons.

Flagler averaged 15.6 points, 4.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 2.5 made threes in 33.7 minutes per game this past season as he assumed full point guard responsibilities for the Bears. He hit 42.6% of his shots from the field, 40% from three and 79% from the free throw line. Flagler’s advanced shooting numbers were 52.8% effective field goal percentage and 56.2% true shooting percentage. 

The Duluth, Georgia native started his collegiate career at Presbyterian College where he was named the Big South’s 2018-19 Freshman of the Year.

I'll hold out until it's over but I would temper expectations. The Vcu guy is still likely. Has good upside but would just be a contributor. Stanford kid probably going Ku. Not a ton of top scoring guards with size left to go get. Villanova and Arkansas got the two best in my opinion.

Bigs/Swingmen still out there but just don't seem to be competing for the top guys. Ad, coaches all giving hints in their comments & interviews.

Again hope they pick it up as running with such a young / hodgepodge squad as it currently stands would not be good. While not incredible or anything, Wvu, Tcu, Houston all already have good transfer "classes " and you know Ku will close very strong. Don't want to be middle tier. Bu has a history of fumbling momentum and don't want to slip.

Of course HS recruiting is still great and top in the conference but it's a new day and you probably have to play this new game to make it happen.

The UNT transfer is still available. Abmas from ORU as well. No they're not tall but we have zero returning proven scoring from the guard position. Both would provide that

Not that high on the Abmas kid and Im assuming they are not getting him. Now the N Texas transfer would be good I agree. Think he would be better than Cryer as a straight up trade. But will believe it when I see it.

Still need size scoring or a swing/wing who can get points if they don't get another scoring guard. Doesn't necessarily "fit" the system but they will have to adjust next year if we don't have the seasoned guards for it. Probably need a big as well.

Which VCU guy are you thinking about? Ace Baldwin and Kern went with their Coach to Penn State.

Houston may not be done in the portal...I notice that all of their High School recruits are verbals, not signed. Not sure why a 4 star guard would be excited with all the portal guards coming in. Just sayin...

Nunn who just confirmed. Very athletic and very high upside.. I'll give them that. Just not proven consistently yet.

I like the piece though just need more. Our backcourt is going to be big, physical, and incredibly athletic after our least athletic backcourt in a long time. Just not a lot of proven scoring at this level.

Yeah it doesn't make a lot of sense but Hou has done well with sponsorships and paying guys. They let fertitta run things and payout as they don't have deep support. MMac pays guys too. Big enthusiastic interest from key $ is more important than raw $ numbers.

Would agree with you though surprising more guys haven't left as there aren't enough minutes. Collection of several good but not great players

All of our best transfers were brought here as projects, to some degree. Royce O'Neal, Davion Mitchell, MaCio Teague, Adam Flagler, etc., were all relative unknowns in terms of what we could expect as high major, starting-caliber players.

I trust Drew to identify guys who fit what he's trying to build on and off the court. His track record is virtually unmatched in that regard, so I don't worry about big names when we go transfer shopping. We've turned a lot of underwhelming names into big-time players.

If I were ranking transfers on the impact they had on the Baylor program, Davion is a clear no.1. No. 2 would be Ekpe Udoh, who was only a 3star HS player, played 2 years at Michigan and transferred. If I remember correctly, he bulked up in the year he had to sit out, and went from 5-6 rebounds per game at Michigan to almost 10pg in the one year in Waco.

You're right. For some reason, I thought we had a page on that for Adam. Flagler has been a great Baylor Bear. 4th guard on the National Championship team (did he even miss a shot against Gonzaga?). You can tell what kind of player and person Adam is by the way his teammates talked about him. Team guy. It was never about him, but when we needed him the last 2 years, when we couldn't find buy a basket on the road, he was the one that took over, finding a way to win. By far, he will be the hardest of all the departures to replace.
