DALLAS, Texas – Baylor women’s golf shot an 11-over 875 to finish second at the Big 12 Championship Sunday at Dallas Athletic Club.

Baylor was led by Hannah Karg, who finished tied for sixth with a 1-over 217 to clinch a spot on the all-tournament team alongside her teammate, Silje Ohma, who finished tied for ninth with a 2-over 218.

BU battled Oklahoma State deep into the back nine on Saturday, but struggles at the difficult 16th hole allowed the Pokes to pull away and beat the Bears by seven with a 4-over 868.

THE RUNDOWN

Karg started strong in the rain and cold with four-straight pars until her first bogey came at No. 5. She closed the front nine with a pair of birdies at Nos. 8 and 9 and carried that momentum to the back nine with birdies at Nos. 13 and 15 to climb into a tie for second. The senior ran into trouble at 16 when she made a triple-bogey six to drop back to even par. She closed with a bogey at No. 17 and a par at 18 for a final-round 73.

Ohma also got off to a good start, with six-straight pars and a bogey at No. 7 to make the turn at just 1-over. She began the back nine with a bang by rolling in a birdie at No. 10 to get back to even par. The freshman played steady before stumbling down the stretch with a double bogey at No. 16 and bogey at No. 18 for a 3-over 75 on Sunday.

Sera Hasegawa finished tied for 13th in her first Big 12 Championship. After a birdie at the opening hole, Hasegawa made a bogey at No. 7 to drop back to even-par on the front nine. She made a quick bogey at No. 11, but climbed back into red figures with an eagle at No. 13. The par-3 16th would give Hasegawa trouble as she carded a double bogey on the hole, before closing with a final bogey at No. 18 to sign for a 2-over 74.

Britta Snyder burst out of the gate with three-straight birdies, but made three bogeys at Nos. 4, 6 and 8 to close out the front nine at even par. The junior made a bogey at No. 11 but got it back with birdie at 13, before finishing the round with a double-bogey and two bogeys at Nos. 14-16 to come home in a tie for 16th.

Rosie Belsham concluded her week with a 5-over 77. The junior played well to start with birdies at Nos. 3 and 8. She reached 2-under before giving those strokes back with a double bogey at No. 9. The double bogey started a tough stretch for Belsham, who played the back nine at 5-over par with bogeys at Nos. 10, 11, 12, 16 and 17 to finish in a tie for 18th.

HIGHLIGHTS

Sunday marked the ninth time BU has finished in the top three at the Big 12 Championship under Jay Goble.

BU had multiple players make the Big 12 All-Tournament team for the fifth time in the last six tournaments.

Saturday’s 281 set a program record for the lowest team round in Big 12 Championship history.

The Bears led the field in par-4 (4.11) and par-5 (4.67) scoring average.

SIlje Ohma is the fifth player to earn all-tournament honors as a freshman under Jay Goble, joining Hayley Davis, Lauren Taylor, Diane Baillieux and Gurleen Kaur.

Sera Hasegawa had a par-5 scoring average of 4.50, which tied for the best in the field.

Hasegawa was one of just two players to make multiple eagles this week

QUOTABLE

Head coach Jay Goble on his team’s resilience: “Not only are they great, but they're fighters, and that's what we need moving forward for the next two events. We’ve got to fight to earn our spot into in the NCAAs and, when we get there, we need to get in that top eight and make a run. I feel like I feel like we can do that.”

Hannah Karg on a strong week: “I think this tournament showed me that I can play consistently. I think overall, we did fine as a team. Obviously we came out here to win. But I still think that there are bigger trophies ahead of us and I'm just looking forward to finishing up postseason and my time at Baylor”

WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor will find out its regional destination with the NCAA women’s golf selection show on Wednesday, April 26, at 12 p.m. CT on Golf Channel.
