Ma’ae has grown quite a bit since high school, getting up to 6-foot-5 and 272 pounds last year. This put Ma’ae in a bit of a pickle when it came to his position in this defense.

Yesterday we looked at Byron Vaughns, a twitchy, athletic edge player who stands at 6-foot-4 240 pounds. Today we look at another important defensive line addition: Treven Ma’ae.

These are very different players, and they’ll fulfill very different roles on the team. Vaughns is a “jolt off the edge” while Ma’ae is a large, stoute, long-armed interior DL who will provide length and power.
