30 for 30: #25 Xavier Jones — 'Shot out of a cannon'

RUSH, Xavier Jones (6-3, 235) | Magnolia (TX) West High School

— If you watched the video above and heard the phrase "shot out of a cannon," that is exactly how you can describe Xavier Jones to any friend or family member who isn't familiar with his game.

— Jones is made perfectly for the RUSH position that came along with Phil Snow's defense.

— The most frustrating thing about Jones heading into 2017 is that he is playing behind Brian Nance, another player I would consider a perfect fit for the RUSH position. I don't believe there will be much drop off between the two players in terms of actually rushing the passer.

— Out of high school, it was obvious Jones' strength would be his pass rush ability, but being asked to be a traditional end in the 4-3 wasn't the way he needed to be utilized as he likely would never have the weight to be an every down end in the formation.

— In 2016, Jones finished his sophomore season with 24 tackles. Nearly one third (7.5) of those came behind the line of scrimmage.  Jones won't go into the season as the starter in 2017, but Snow's defense will allow for more consistent play from the junior.
