Wednesday Evening Update (10:00 pm CT)

The Big 12 presidents unanimously approved Colorado as a new member on a conference call Wednesday evening according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The University has still not formally applied for Big 12 membership.

“But tonight’s Big 12 vote marks anouther necessary step toward Colorado joining the Big 12. Colorado’s Board of Regents is expected to vote on the move from the Pac-12 to the Big 12 on Thursday, which is another step toward finalizing the move,” Thamel added.

Colorado is expected to be a full member in the Big 12 and receive full revenue share with the league’s 12 remaining universities.

Colorado held a board meeting on Wednesday to discuss a move back to the Big 12 Conference according to a tweet by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Wednesday afternoon.

A secondary board meeting for the University is also scheduled on Thursday to continue discussing the possibility of the former Big 12 program leaving the Pac-12 and returning to the league that it left after the 2010-2011 athletic year.

In addition, the presidents of the universities which comprise the Big 12 conference will meet on Wednesday evening according to Thamel.

“Colorado is in discussions about a move to the Big 12, and the school has just completed a board meeting and scheduled another for tomorrow to discuss the move,” Thamel tweeted. “The Big 12 is also holding a presidents meeting tonight where there's expected to be an expansion update.”

Thamel sent a follow-up tweet stating the agenda has not been posted by Colorado.

“There’s no agenda posted yet. But the meeting tomorrow at Colorado is called a “Special Board Meeting” and was scheduled essentially as today’s “athletics operations” executive session board meeting ended.”

Action Network’s Brett McMurphy added that his sources believe it’s “98 percent” certain Colorado is headed to the Big 12.

Arizona reporter Jason Scheer, who has been among those most connected in the rumor mill regarding expansion, tweeted  the move would come in the next 48 hours.

Scheer also added another program could also be seriously considering the league.

“Also, there's another school in the Pac-12 beyond the rumored four corners that will surprise people and is seriously contemplating a jump to the Big 12,” he tweeted.

Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado have been speculated as the four most likely to move to the league if a worthy television deal could not be attained by the league.

Finally, the first concrete action that the B12 is in play with the big boys. Like it or not, Colorado is a bigger fish than UCONN, Memphis or a G5 if for no other reason than they are leaving a P5 for a P5.
