30 for 30: #20 Sam Tecklenburg

August 13, 2017

Center, Sam Tecklenburg (6-3, 290) | Plano (TX) High School

— I included the video above to simply remind everyone the sacrifice that Teck is making for the team. The high school tight end projected well to the offensive but by no means needed to make the move to be athletic enough to play at the collegiate level. He's there now and Matt Rhule believes he's a future NFL offensive lineman.

— I remember back to his recruitment and the first time I saw Teck was during a 7-on-7 tournament where I was headed out to see Malik Jefferson. I went into that day expecting to be blown away by Jefferson's athleticism. I left that tournament blown away at how under recruited Teck actually was. His size-athletic ability ratio at the high school level was as good as I had seen.

— There's a great argument to me made that Teck is Baylor's most important puzzle piece to Baylor's team in 2017. If he's not starting, he will be a backup on the line which is in desperate need of multiple back ups.

— If there is a position change that I have ever been excited about, it's this one. They are typically hard to get excited about because it means a player is buried on the depth chart and they are moving the player for depth reasons. This might be for depth reasons, but it's a move that makes sense for a player who was nearly 300 pounds before spring practice started.

Big Sam the loyal Baylor Bear... The Plano Baylor Bear.

He can play anywhere on the LIne if need be.

Hey, he's got good hands--why not use him on a Center eligible or Lineman eligible play sometimes?

That video has to be from spring right?

When I saw his HS video back during his recruitment I noted on BFans that he looked like an interior lineman to me. I was surprised the old staff had him at TE as long as they did.
