No. 19 Women's Basketball clobbers Harden-Simmons in pre-season exhibition 120-41
The No.19 Baylor Bears clobbered the Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons University 120-41 in a pre-season exhibition match before the Bears open up the regular season at home on Monday.
In a heavy-handed win over HSU, all 13 Bears saw the court and put points on the board. The Bears were led by Sophomore winger Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, who put up 21 points, 12 of which came in the third quarter, where she subbed out with 3:03 remaining and did not return to the game.
While the Bears led 56-18 at the half, they ran away from the cowgirls in the third. After a pair of missed shots, the Bears went on a 25-0 run, capped on both ends with perfect shooting streaks; the Bears started the run shooting 5-5 and ended the run shooting 11-11. It took HSU 7:21 to score their first points of the second half.
All 12 Bears appeared in tonight's exhibition, with 12/13 playing for over 10 minutes and all of them contributing to the whopping 120-point output. Coach Nicki Collen was happy to get all of her players onto the court, saying it was the first significant amount of time some had played with each other instead of against each other on the practice squads.
Collen said, “For the most part, Jada’s ran one team, and Jana’s run the other through most of our fall workouts. So [we’re] just starting to get them playing together.”
Graduate forward Dre’una Edwards made her way onto the court of the Ferrell Center after sitting on the sidelines for the ’22 season due to NCAA transfer portal rules.
“It definitely lived up to my expectations. Honestly, I don’t really know what I was expecting to feel, but it was nothing but excitement; nothing but love and support from my teammates, my coaches and the fans as well. The fans bring a bunch of support. It was super exciting to put on the jersey and be able to be on the floor.”
