The Underrated Performer for Baylor against Houston

Another week, another loss for Baylor, as they fell in overtime to Houston 25-24 on Saturday at McLane Stadium. The Bears continue to struggle with tackling on defense and the offense remains without an identity.

It was nice to see Baylor find ways to get Richard Reese on the field, which has been one of the biggest question marks all season long. Despite not having big numbers on Saturday, Reese did show flashes of his big play capabilities, which makes him this week’s underrated performer.

The rushing attack as a whole for Baylor was limited once again, as the team finished with 185 yards on 35 carries by four different players and one touchdown by Blake Shapen. Reese had just three attempts for 21 yards, despite averaging a team-high seven yards per carry.

Baylor also briefly used Reese as a slot receiver, where he had one reception for five yards. He was also used as a kick returner, which was nice to see as well. I’m still confused about why Reese hasn’t been more involved this season when he clearly has the ability to make plays in multiple facets of the game, but hopefully, he gets more opportunities in the final three games of the regular season.

Up next for Baylor (3-6, 2-4) is a trip to the Sunflower State to face Kansas State (6-3, 4-2) who just fell out of the AP Top 25 following a 33-30 OT loss to No. 7 Texas in Austin. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
