Barely watching but why is Jon not getting more minutes here. Has looked pretty good and showed some good bounce. Best leaping I've seen from him since the injury.
Yeah his vertical looks close to where it was, when he has time to gather himself. But he will probably never recover his mobility and lateral movement, he just can't keep up against the more athletic teams. It's a real shame because his lateral agility was what made him so special back in the day.

Very true. But can the alternative keep up any better against athletic teams? He was a huge liability against both Michigan St and Duke.

Miro's talent level has been a little more raw thus far than I had anticipated, but his enthusiasm throughout the game for the team and his teammates is so fun to watch. He's always animated, never sulks, and always the first up to congratulate teammates on great plays. Doesn't look like he's gonna play a big role on the court this year but I'm confident he'll be ready to roll next year with a year of development.

Who turned out the lights tonight?

Anyone who was also there to turn out the lights at the Coliseum?

I have to say on TV this looks like a much better crowd than I was expecting. We'll miss whitetrash's live reports from games going forward.

I'll be at the new place. Assuming I don't miss the bus from the remote parking lot.

Agreed, the defensive instincts still are pretty much nonexistent for Josh. He has all the physical tools but the lack of instincts creates hesitation. He is pretty much the same guy he was last year even after a full offseason. That has been a disappointment because historically our staff has always been great when it comes to developing bigs. But they have no choice but to continue rolling with him and see if things eventually start to click for him.

Josh is a sophomore who I believe had very little basketball experience before coming to Baylor. Ekpe, Gillespie and Jonathan were all transfers. We didn't see them on the court at Josh's age and development. That said, not everyone takes to development the same way. Perry Jones was perhaps the most talented big we have had until MIssi... but my observation of him was that he wanted to be more of a guard than center, hence his development never really gelled.
Josh has upside but plays about 6-10 which makes him effective against the smaller bigs but vulnerable against the 7'ers. He got owned by Filipowski but that is going to happen to 90% of the power five centers. He needs to work on his footwork, and game time awareness. He, along with the Freshman seem to struggle with communication on the court. To me this is the more serious problem as it appears that our young stars are getting insufficient or confusing input at times.

This is an exceptional point that I often forget, TWD. He truly isn't at the same experience level as some others I've seen come through here and/or with other programs that I may often compare him to (in my head). I think he'll be okay against some of the weaker ball movement O's in the conference.

But, unfortunately at the same time, his inability to move quickly and/or recover and his tendency to be out of position will continue to make our guards look even worse when playing any team that has a semblance of good ball movement. That is, unless Drew and staff alter the defensive style as we move into conference play. I still would just as soon see the today's Jonathan and his experience in more of those situations because I don't think he's any slower than Josh but he has the higher defensive IQ. And, I still believe his current slowness is also a product of the pulled muscle he hasn't seem to be able to get over. Either way, Drew and staff know a helluva lot better than I do who should be playing. I am just making a fan observation.

Very good perspective here, TWD. We all need to exercise patience because Josh might still be a year away. Or a year away from being a year away. When I first saw Josh O last year, I remember thinking his offense was way ahead of his defense. Which is usually the opposite for developmental bigs.
