Dre'Una Edwards Named McClain Award Top 10 Candidate
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Baylor women’s basketball’s Dre’Una Edwards has been selected as a top 10 candidate for the 2024 Katrina McClain Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Thursday.
Named after the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, the annual award, in its seventh year, recognizes the top power forwards in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball.
Edwards, who earned a spot on the preseason Katrina McClain Award watch list for the second-straight year, has started all 18 games for the Bears this season after having to sit out last year. In her Baylor debut, Edwards put up 20 points against Southern (Nov. 6) before putting up her first double-double in a Baylor uniform in an 80-point win over McNeese (Nov. 24).
The Las Vegas, Nevada, native has finished in double figures in team-leading 15 of 18 contests this season and has led the Bears in scoring on two occasions. Additionally, Edwards has finished in double figures in six of seven Big 12 games. She dished out a career-high seven assists in a win over Houston (Jan. 6), and defensively, Edwards has a team-best 127 rebounds and four double-digit rebounding performances this year.
