Fort Bend (TX) Marshall High School 2024 safety Josh Lair‍ has committed and signed with Baylor on National Signing Day Wednesday after taking an unofficial visit over the weekend. He becomes signee No. 14 in the 2024 class.

BAYLOR 2024 SIGNING CLASS

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect signed with Washington in December before the departure of head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama. Baylor was in his final three along with Texas when he initially made the decision to commit to Washington.

The Baylor offer made a huge impact on him when it came back in February of 2023 as the Bears became just the third Power Five program to offer him.

“To have my dream school offer me is truly a blessing,” he said when he was initially offered. “I’ve always wanted to major in sports medicine, Baylor University has an amazing sports medicine program. As far as football, I’ve always loved the culture and the passion that is put into Baylor football.”

Baylor defensive coordinator Matthew Powledge called to offer the priority safety prospect back in February as the two have been building a relationship since he arrived back at Baylor from Oregon last off season.

“He really just emphasized how important the game is to him and how I could potentially contribute to the program,” he said. “I’m able to play in the box, physical, can cover, and overall a student of the game it’s self. He likes the pace that I play at and overall my game.”

He totaled 52 tackles, 10 for loss, and an interception as a senior. As a junior he totaled 54 tackles, 13 for loss, three forced fumbles, two interceptions, and three sacks.

Currently Lair is ranked as a four-star, 91-rated prospect on SicEm365, on 247 he is an 89-rated three-star prospect and the No. 58 recruit in the state of Texas. On3, Rivals, and ESPN have him rated as a high three-star prospect.

He had signed with UW in December and then got out of his letter when DeBoar left. This is a pretty substantial signee. Obviously alot of recruits and coaches we have hired see something here that many on this board dont see.

We'll see if "something" is there, but in regards to your statement.....they don't want to see. They would rather be proven correct than for our program to be headed up.

Josh is an absolute STUD. I've seen him play a few times and he gets after it in a hurry. Reminds me of Jalen Pitre and Garry Baxter.....I wouldn't be surprised if we see him playing on Sunday's down the road....

I haven't seen a single person that isn't happy about signing an obviously good commit. Whether our program is trending up is speculation until it's proven. Actual record on the field seems to indicate the opposite. I've liked a lot of what Aranda has done this off-season though

GG with the Lair added to the star position depth this fall and Simpkins added as a starter, do you see anyone making the move to a more traditional safety spot on the roster?

I agree but if we can finish .500 or better this Fall and be in each game - then it's a successful season.

One step at a time and control what you can control. The coaches get paid to recruit and coach them up. If they were hamstring by NIL, the offense, a young defensive back end or whatever last year we will know early on.

As fans we can show up, be loud and stop ****ting on the program every chance we get. I've been guilty to the ladder then I back away for the ledge as I know when it's time I'm going to renew my tickets. I'm just invested in the school. It has several flaws but it's still my school
