Realistically we have a high probability of losing to them. Historically under CSD we really don't value advancing in the big 12 tourney.

It's a hybrid road game which the team struggles in. Would feel fine in a true neutral game. On the road against decent teams, they struggle. Breaking that cycle today would be great.

So we're excusing poor results in KC as not valuing games?
And for what it's worth I don't expect us to win tonight. But not because we all the sudden don't value big time matchups

If CSD truly valued winning a big 12 tournament our results would show that. I think the last time we made it to a final was like 2012 or 2014. CSD gears his teams for the tournament that matters.

Yeah, agree we suck in this. He is not deliberately tanking games but you can sense a lack of urgency. Playing 2 or 3 days in a row can be mentally / physically exhausting and exposes a team to injury risk. Not sure it's really worth expending the energy if it won't even help seeding that much. For a team needing to win or make it to the finals to make the tournament, obviously there is motivation.

I'm not saying we need to win the thing yearly or anything crazy like that. But getting a win or 2 ain't the worst thing. And we absolutely have a chance to improve seeding with a win tonight.

Very possible. Creighton losing helped us a ton. It's too bad Marquette hung on last night for it would have been a perfect evening.

There are actually interviews in past years. I thought it sounded like nonsense too until I heard him alluding to not minding the extra rest. Some version of this repeated multiple times. And comments like its "so difficult to play so many games and then turnaround and play the next week."

So not outright tanking but it definitely wasn't the most disappointing thing to him to lose in the conference tournament. The team came out like it.

I think this year is different due to the double bye and a real shot to maximize time with a team with "only" one season together.

And Iowa State is usually really tough in KC. They take that place over every year.

And it shows in the way we've rested healthy-ish players in this event. Langston Love's surprise absence last night was not the first such instance.

Drew never seems to treat the conference tournament with much urgency. I don't think we want to lose these games or try to lose them intentionally. But it's pretty clear we don't take them as seriously as we do games in the conference season or in the NCAA tournament.

What is your connection to Iowa? You grew up there and went to BU?

Nope didn't go to BU. Graduated from ISU.. shocker I know.
Long story short I went with my old man, uncle, grandpa to a job they did in Waco wayyyy back in the day. Anyways they took me to a BU vs Texas game at Floyd Casey. BU got drilled by 40 something. Fell in love with BU that day and have stuck with them ever since. Guess I shouldn't say way back in the day I'm only 31.

This is what sucks for Baylor fans with the Big 12 tourney. Way harder to drive from anywhere in Texas to KC. Over 7 hours from Dallas, close to 8 from Waco. I would rather save my travel funds to go to NCAA, but it sucks for our team. I wish Dallas would have had better turn outs.
