Baylor’s RayJ Dennis Named to the NABC All-District Team
WACO, Texas – Baylor guard RayJ Dennis earned a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 8 Second Team, announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The NABC nod is just the latest in a long line for the Plainfield, Ill., native, who was also voted to the All-Big 12 Second Team by the media and conference coaches, as well as the All-Big 12 Newcomer Team.
In his only season in Waco, Dennis ranks second on the team, averaging 13.3 points, and a Big-12 leading 6.8 assists per game. The senior has also been a staple on the floor for the Bears, averaging 37.8 minutes per game in conference play this season, which also leads the league.
With 142 starts in 162 games in his college career, Dennis ranks tied for ninth among active players in games played and seventh among active players in career assists (703). His 225 assists rank as the third-most in a single-season in Baylor history, while his 6.8 assists per game rank as the fifth-most single-season dimes in program history.
Dennis joined Houston’s LJ Cryer, TCU’s Emanuel Miller, Texas’ Dylan Disu and Texas Tech’s Pop Issacs on the second team. Hunter Dickinson and Kevin McCullar of Kansas, Jamal Shead of Houston, Tamin Lipsey of Iowa State and Max Abmas of Texas all received first-team nods.
No. 3 seed Baylor opens play in the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Friday morning at 11:40 a.m. CT against the Colgate Raiders on TruTv. Spero Dedes, Jim Spanarkel and Jon Rothstein will have the call. The winner between Baylor and Colgate will get the winner of No. 6 seed Clemson and No. 11 seed New Mexico.
