John Jakus and Alvin Brooks III (AB) are great men. Both are quite similar. They’re deeply intelligent and more likely to make a point with deep insight than to scream at someone.

Now both are gone. Jakus is the head coach at FAU, and Brooks has elected to take the lead assistant role at Kentucky.

What Baylor Lost:

Jakus worked primarily with the guards. He helped develop a host of NBA draft picks, and Baylor could point to that development in recruiting.

I bet Dancing Dude is totally Chicken Little right now by claiming the "sky is falling". Meanwhile, Fresh Prince in Waco is chilling knowing that Scott Drew will make the right hires. What does Scotty B the Baylor King have to add?
BE SURE TO ASK FOR THE BIGFOOT SPECIAL AT ANY BURGER JOINT! I'LL HANG UP AND LISTEN! DOUBLE B'S OUUUTT!

i know probably less than anyone about collegiate basketball but I know a &#%@#&% when I see someone like the Kentucky AD. I find it very hard to believe there were not numerous candidates to fill the position Brooks was hired for with one exception. None of the other potential candidates had a direct link to the one that got away. I would give V. J, Edgecombe the finest new cell phone that money can buy and download everything on his current phone except any and all links to Brooks. With stories I have heard about Kentucky I don't think they take rejection well.
I have total and complete confidence that Scott Drew and Mack Rhoades are decent and honorable men. I cannot say that for their counterparts in Kentucky. Call me a cynic or anything you choose but I believe that evil exist in this world. I wish the best for V..J. Edgecombe as he has tough choices to make.

It means we lost our 2 best recruiters and recruiting may suck for awhile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this doesn't mean we're headed back to the middle of the pack or lower in the conference. Coach Drew has hired good assistant coaches in the past so I guess we should be hopeful it will happen again.

All it means is we'll have to hire three new assistants.

Those guys contributed to our program certainly, but both were hired to replace other assistants that were hired away from our program. We'll replace them the same way.

Scott Drew's track record in this area is pretty damn good.

Common denominator- Scott Drew. That hasn't changed.

Interesting - didn't realize Edgecombe has not yet signed - wow - that is potentially concerning - I also agree with you regarding Kentucky and the big ego AD

I hope Edgecombe still comes, but if he doesn't, we'll get a more experienced, more mature and likely more consistent guard out of the portal. We'll be fine either way.

Agreed - freshman starters have never been my cup of tea - especially ones that only stay one year - so maybe not so concerning…more important for CSD to focus on getting some good assistant coaches in here for the future.

Lots of misinformation in this thread. As has been mentioned, Edgecombe signed his LOI last week, which makes the timing of Brooks to UK make me think that it was never a package deal for them.

Secondly, Mitch Barnhart (Kentucky AD) is a devout Christian, and a close personal friend of Scott Drew's. The whole "there is evil in this world" comments about a basketball head coaching job is super dramatic and unnecessary.

Hey Dummy, AD's have nothing to do with hiring assistant coaches.

Mitch Barnhart is a close friend with Scott Drew and the only reason he almost went to UK.

Mitch Barnhart has nothing to do with the hiring of assistants. Sources say during UK's courting of Drew, AB3 was very enticed. The staff told Drew to go, ultimately between god and his wife he chose to stay.

Baylor fans that think badly of a team for hiring one of their coaches are delusional. This is a business. Everybody is available. GROW UP

in response to Rice 2020

NCAA rules allow underclassmen to transfer once without having to sit out a year. But an additional transfer as an undergraduate generally requires the NCAA to grant a waiver allowing the athlete to compete immediately.Dec 13, 2023

Why is it so easy to consider players might follow a head coach to a new assignment and totally impossible for a player to follow an assistant coach?

A few weeks ago countless posting were made of how toxic the fans at Kentucky take basketball and will stop at nothing regarding their program. Numerous local people know firsthand the scorn they handout. Eliminating the AD and coaches hardly reduces the possible fallout as they most certainly are aware of the culture they live in.

I live in LEXINGTON - I know the culture well. YOU are projecting. You see the minority on twitter - burner accounts, etc. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Why are you talking to me about transfer portal? We are talking about an assistant coach. VJ Edgecomb is not going to UK, that's not happening. I am saying you badmouthing an AD who is a devout Christian and very good friends with your HC seems weird. But to each their own.

They didn't hire Brooks as a long term assistant coach to get VJ for one year. VJ is set. He will play for us for one year and then go pro.
