“My number one thing is the quarterback and the offensive coordinator working together,” Murphy said. “Coach Jake Spavital fills that role perfectly for me. The day he moved into his office at Baylor, he offered me three hours later. That was his first move he made as an offensive coordinator, and I will never forget that. That made a huge impact on me in my recruitment.”
While at Austin (TX) Regents High School, Murphy threw for 3,030 yards and 52 touchdowns with just eight interceptions while completing 70% of his passes. He also ran for 242 yards and five touchdowns during his sophomore campaign.
As a freshman, he threw for 2,406 yards and 33 touchdowns, with just three interceptions and completed 67% of his passes.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect chose Baylor over offers from Miami, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Houston, Louisville, Michigan, NC State, Missouri, UCF, UTSA and SMU, among others
Murphy is rated as a four-star prospect and ranked the No. 16 quarterback in the nation according to Rivals. Both 247 and On3 rate him as a three-star prospect.
