GameDay: Baylor travels to Houston to face Rice

The Baylor Bears travel to Houston to take on the Rice Owls in their final non-conference matchup of the 2016 season. The game between the two teams will be aired live nationally on ESPN at 7 p.m. CT.

RICE SERIES HISTORY

  • Baylor and Rice will meet for the 81st time Friday. Winners of seven straight against Rice, Baylor leads the series 48-30-2. Rice is the second former Southwest Conference rival on Baylor’s 2016 schedule (Baylor defeated SMU, 40-13, on Sept. 10). Prior to Baylor and Rice leaving the Southwest Conference in 1996, the series with the Owls had been played continuously for 71 years (with the exception of World War II) as conference rivals.
  • Since moving into the Big 12 Conference in 1996, Baylor is 10-0 in non-conference games against former Southwest Conference (non-Big 12) rivals -- 6-0 vs. SMU and 4-0 vs. Rice.
  • Friday will be just the fifth series meeting since the Southwest Conference disbanded.
  • In 2010’s last series meeting in Houston, Robert Griffin III passed for 268 yards and three touchdowns to lead Baylor to a 30-13 win over Rice on a rain-soaked Saturday night that included a weather delay of about an hour. The Bears outgained Rice 456 to 296.
  • Baylor’s coaching connections with Rice also run deep as former defensive coach Larry Hoeffer (2003-10) is the Rice safeties coach and former director of operations Jerry Pickle (1986-2007) is on the Owls’ operations staff.

(Obligatory I'm sure Callahan is a great guy,) but that said, I can't wait until he's graduated and we start letting someone else, anybody else, literally ANYBODY ELSE try to kick our field goals. Dude has cost us at least two games.

Our mojo is somewhere sitting in the stands right now. We haven't played with any edge in two and half games. As we've said all all along, we'll know alot about this team after next Saturday. But right now we are a shell of what we once were.

We better snap out of this funk in a hurry or it could be a long two months.

As I watch this game, I am thankful that the Steele years taught me how to distinguish bad football from horrible football and still get some enjoyment out of the game.

We look like a team that barely practices in pads because the coaching staff is scared to death of injuries. Same as well looked last week, it takes a quarter to a quarter and a half before the OL starts to drive, DL stops doing that tickle fight crap, and Seth stops being scared that every time he gets touched his neck is going to break in two.

It's absolutely the right call from the coaching staff, but it does make the first quarter tough to watch.

Seeing glimpses of WVU Seth for the first time in the 2nd Q. WRs outside of Cannon are hot dog sh*t at the moment.

Our ILB's still can't stack and shed - lots of problems getting *stuck* on these mediocre OL. Sideline to sideline speed is amazing though.

Same people outraged at BU for what happened are the same ones laughing at the Rice Band. Nothing like mocking rape and it shows how fake most of the outrage was this summer.

Being from Houston, I can tell you that rice folks are generally very sharp but often quite strange. Mob is a good example of that
