Baylor Women's Tennis Travels to ITA Texas Regional
FORT WORTH, Texas – Baylor women’s tennis takes the road to TCU for the ITA DI Texas Regional Championship at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, held Thursday through Monday.
The Bears will join Division I programs from across the state to compete for the regional singles and doubles titles. Last season in the tournament hosted at Baylor, juniors Brooke Thompson, Sierra Berry and Liubov Kostenko were able to pick up singles wins in the opening round of the main draw before they eventually fell in their respective matches in the second round.
After an off week for training, the Bears return to action following the season-opening H-E-B Invitational at home and the All-American Championships in North Carolina that ran through Sept. 29.
In Cary, Zuzanna Kubacha, Kennedy Gibbs and Na Dong were able to each earn a singles win in the first two days of competition. No. 27 Cristina Tiglea fought in her first tournament as a Bear, but fell 0-2 in the main singles draw.
In the Texas Regional, the Bears will have Lauren Littell and Thompson in the qualifying draw, while Nanaka Sato, Berry, Dong, Gibbs, Kostenko, Kubacha, Tigela and Wenfei Yu will be participating in the main draw.
The Texas Regional opens on Thursday with two rounds of qualifying singles, while the main draw of singles and doubles commences on Friday.
The finalists in singles play and the doubles champions will earn a spot in November’s NCAA Individual Championships held back home in Waco.
Admission to the Friedman Tennis Center is free in Fort Worth. Results and updated draws will be posted at the conclusion of each match on the tournament website. Live streams will be provided through Playsight.
