WACO, Texas — Baylor point guard Jeremy Roach was one of 20 players tabbed to the Naismith Starting 5 – Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Preseason Watch List on Monday.

While the senior is the first player named to the preseason list since Jared Butler, Baylor head coach Scott Drew has a long history of success with point guards. Thirteen of Baylor’s last 14 point men under Drew have earned All-Big recognition, spanning 17 of the last 18 seasons.

The Leesburg, Va., native brings meaningful experience to Baylor after four seasons with the Duke Blue Devils. During his time on Tobacco Road, Roach was a two-time team captain, helping the Blue Devils to the Final Four in 2022 and the ACC Tournament title in 2023.

Entering the season with 1,469 points, the fifth-year senior is coming off a career-best assist-turnover ratio, boasting a 2.32 mark a season ago. He also averaged a career-high in points (14.0), three-point percentage (.429) and free-throw percentage (.844), earning a spot on the All-ACC Third Team.

Roach is among four Big 12 representatives, joining Iowa State's Tamin Lipsey, Kansas' Dajuan Harris and Texas Tech's Elijah Hawkins. The other honorees are Mark Sears of Alabama, Duke's Tyrese Proctor, Florida's Walter Clayton Jr., Georgetown's Malik Mack, Gonzaga's Ryan Nembhard, Indiana's Myles Rice, Mississippi State's Josh Hubbard, North Carolina's Elliott Cadeau, Notre Dame's Markus Burton, Ohio State’s Bruce Thornton, Penn State’s Ace Baldwin Jr., Purdue’s Braden Smith, Rutgers’ Dylan Harper, Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler, Texas’ Jordan Pope and Texas A&M’s Wade Taylor IV.

The list will morph throughout the season, giving players an opportunity to play their way on or off the list. It will be trimmed to 10 in early February, with the final five announced in early March. The winner will be unveiled at the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas, on April 4th.

Fan voting presented by Dell Technologies is now open, with the player who earns the most votes getting an additional vote from the committee. For any additional information, please visit the official website: http://www.hoophallawards.com/.
