Fresno State LB Phoenix Jackson Commits to Baylor Over Auburn

Fresno State linebacker Phoenix Jackson committed to Baylor over Auburn following his official visit on Monday. He becomes the Bears' first linebacker addition this transfer portal cycle.

The 6-foot-0, 220-pound prospect totaled 49 tackles, 7.0 for loss, 4.0 sacks, two interceptions, four pass breakups and one forced fumble this past season. Per Pro Football Focus, he posted a 76.1 defensive grade, a 70.7 pass-rush grade and a 90.3 coverage grade in 448 snaps this season.

He collected 52 tackles, three tackles for loss and an interception in his first two years at Fresno State.

Baylor is losing first-team All-Big 12 linebacker Matt Jones (6Sr.) due to graduation, and Carmello Jones (RSo.) elected to hit the transfer portal, leaving the current roster with just three scholarship linebackers: Keaton Thomas (RSo.), Jeremy Evans (RSo.) and Kyland Reed (Fr.).

Linebacker was a position of need entering the transfer portal period as the staff needed to replenish the depth while also finding a quality starter to make up for losing Jones’ high-level production.

Jackson could be a fit at WILL, or he even has the potential to play some STAR due to his versatility in coverage and his ability to be a pass rusher.

Baylor linebacker coach Jamar Chaney and the staff have been very active in recruiting the linebacker position this offseason. The Bears signed four-star prospect Kaleb Burns‍, three-star prospect KB Winston and three-star prospect Trent Spence‍ in the 2025 class.

He has one year of eligibility remaining.
