No. 3 Iowa State (12-1; 2-0) clobbers No. 25 Baylor (9-4; 1-1) in Ames, Iowa. The weather in Ames was cold, and so was the shooting from the Bears (19-64; 29.7%). Next up for Baylor is a home game against Cincinnati in Waco on Tuesday, January 7th, at 7 p.m. CST.
Positives
- Josh Ojianwuna (Jr.) has been trending up. He played a great game overall with 13 points, 10 rebounds and good activity on defense.
- Good to see some 3-pointers go down late in the game from Jeremy Roach (5Sr.) and Rob Wright (Fr.).
- Baylor had less than 10 turnovers (8); this team takes care of the ball and creates turnovers on defense — currently 49 in offensive turnover percentage and 29 in defensive turnover percentage.
- Defensive rebounding has been trending up. Baylor held Iowa State to less than 30% of offensive rebounds on their misses. Ojianwuna, Norchad Omier (5Sr.) and VJ Edgecombe (Fr.) all do well on the defensive glass.
Needs Work
- The offense struggled today, with 0.85 points per possession, which is particularly bad when considering that the Bears didn't turn the ball over. The ball movement needs to get better.
- The body language wasn’t great, and the team needs to be more connected.
- Head coach Scott Drew needs more consistency from Jayden Nunn (Sr.) and Roach in the backcourt. Roach’s stat line ended okay, but much of his production was in garbage time.
- What’s going on with Langston Love (RJr.)? Frustrating.
