Baylor men’s basketball has been named the No. 9 seed in the East Region by the NCAA Tournament selection committee on Sunday evening.
Baylor (19-14, 10-10 Big 12) will play its first two games of the NCAA Tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina, and is set to face No. 8 seed Mississippi State (21-12, 8-10 SEC) in the Round of 64 at 11:15 a.m. CT on Friday, March 21.
With a victory over the Bulldogs, Baylor would move on to the Round of 32, where the Bears would face the winner of No. 1 seed Duke (31-3, 19-1 ACC) and a No. 16 seed out of the first four.
Baylor enters the Big Dance with wins in three of its last five games; the two narrow losses came in the regular season finale to the Big 12 Champion Houston Cougars (30-4, 19-1) and then to Texas Tech (25-8, 15-5) in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
The Bears have not made it past the second round of the NCAA Tournament since the 2020-2021 National Championship season. The three consecutive round-of-32 losses have been at the hands of No. 8 seed North Carolina, No. 6 seed Creighton and No. 6 seed Clemson.
