Head coach Nicki Collen and Baylor have secured a commitment from SMU guard Ella Brow out of the transfer portal. Brow is the fifth transfer portal addition of the offseason, joining Oklahoma forward Kiersten Johnson, Auburn guard Yuting Deng, North Dakota forward Kiera Pemberton and Auburn guard Taliah Scott.
Brow, a 5-foot-8 guard, played in 14 games for the Mustangs this season with two starts, averaging 6.1 points and 2.7 assists on just 23.3 minutes per game. She shot 30% from the field and 29% from beyond the arc.
Brow battled injuries across three seasons at SMU and played in just 40 contests. Her best season was as a freshman in 2022-2023, when she started 10 games and averaged 4.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 22.4 minutes per contest.
“Ella is a combo guard with the size, basketball IQ and skill to give us depth in our backcourt,” head coach Nicki Collen said in a press release. “Ella has the ability to play in ball screens and find teammates while also being able to knock down the open 3. She has dealt with injuries over the past two seasons at SMU, however we believe a fully healthy Ella will be an asset to our team with two years of eligibility remaining.”
She played at Palm Beach Currumbin High School in Palm Beach, Queensland, Australia, and was selected to play with the New Zealand Tall Ferns in a Trans-Tasman Series against Australia.
Collen later added, “Ella will gain valuable experience playing for the New Zealand national team this summer as they play a series against Australia.”
