Blair Academy (NJ) center Ramon “Mayo” Soyoye has committed to head coach Scott Drew and Baylor. He joins Tounde Yessoufou and Andre Iguodala II in the 2025 recruiting class.
Standing at 6-foot-10, 235 pounds, Soyoye is not known for his scoring but had a strong senior season as a shot-blocker and rebounder.
He told Dushawn London of 247 Sports in February, “I'm an athletic hustle player who dives for loose balls and gets rebounds. I'm not really a scorer, but I can come in, set screens, and make plays for my team."
Soyoye later added, "I'm looking for a college program that develops me. It's okay if I don't go in and start right away. I can be on the bench, but I'm ready to develop my game to the college level. This whole process is new to me. This is only my fourth year playing basketball, so I'm learning everything along the way."
Soyoye is unranked but has started to gain some recruiting momentum recently, with Maryland, Texas Tech, Xavier and Villanova taking notice.
Why the Fit Looks Good
He’s a raw prospect, but his motor burns hot. Soyoye sports a 7-foot-4 wingspan and does everything Baylor asks of their post players. He sets good screens, can finish at the rim, protects the rim on defense and eats glass. He might be a redshirt candidate, but he could be a great piece for the future of Baylor basketball. He reminds me of Samson Johnson for Connecticut.
