Four-Star 2027 Safety, Waco Native Davontrae Kirkland Commits to Baylor
Waco (TX) University High safety Davontrae Kirkland has committed to Baylor over Houston, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and TCU. He becomes the first commit in the Bears' 2027 recruiting class.
“I have known the [Baylor coaching staff] since the seventh grade,” Kirkland told SicEm365’s Grayson Grundhoefer. “They have always been constantly recruiting me, and never stopped. Every time I go over there, they just treat my family with respect and like we are already part of the family, like I was already committed. It was just the right choice based on how they use their players down there; it just fits my play style. I think it’s the perfect place for me.”
As a sophomore, he posted 83 tackles, five pass breakups, an interception and a forced fumble.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect is rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 91 prospect in the nation, according to Rivals. He is also a 247Sports composite four-star prospect.
His relationships with the Baylor program run deep. He is close with two 2026 commits, Jamarion Vincent and London Smith, and his former high school head coach, Kaeron Johnson, recently took the Assistant Athletic Director for High School Relations position at Baylor this offseason.
