Presser: Scott Drew & Players Preview Exhibition Against GCU

WACO – Head coach Scott Drew and Baylor men’s basketball are set for a preseason, exhibition showdown against Bryce Drew and the Grand Canyon Antelopes at Foster Pavilion on Friday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m. CT. The game is open to the public, but will not be streamed on ESPN+.

They keep adding and taking a point away on the scoreboard because of a 3 point shot early that now they are counting as 2.

Yessoufou from 3! He has around 9 or 10 points now.

He is as big in person as he looked in videos. Not a freshman body. He and Powell have been the most physical by far.

Skillings, Yessoufou and Carr all looked impressive on O in the 1st half.

Rataj and Agbim, not so much.


It's the typical scrimmage. Scott is testing different D's. We played some man, some zone, some hybrid, pressed a significant amount.

You have to keep in mind we have an entire brand new team so we are not gonna look polished, plus this is a scrimmage so you're really just trying to learn and try different scenarios, but the most positive thing I saw in the first half is that this team has a composition that appears to be pretty versatile. We even picked up the physicality later in the first half.

Soyoye is a big kid but he is like you would expect. Very raw. But if Bodo Bodo is not available then I'm not sure what direction Scott goes with a lineup because Powell plays pretty physical and fouls, so someone is gonna have to fill that spot.

Carr has freakishly long arms. He may only be 6'5" but his arms make him play much taller. He can guard taller guards we typically face in the Big 12.

Powell is not gonna put up a lot of stats but he's gonna be one of those under the radar important pieces of this team. He definitely sets the tone for the rest of the team to be more physical. He's setting some solid screens on offense that have created open shots for others.

OMG! Agbim tosses an alley oop from almost midcourt and Carr looked like Quincy Acy leaping in the air for a slam. Gets fouled. Makes the +1.

That time spent this summer is gonna pay big dividends this year. We have looked way more cohesive as a team in a scrimmage like this than I thought we would.

Big difference between GCU's starting 5 and when they bring in their reserves from the bench. Starting 5 are solid. We've taken advantage every time they've brought in their bench guys.
