Opinion: Baylor’s Best Path Forward Runs Through DJ Lagway
Florida transfer quarterback DJ Lagway is set to take a visit to Baylor on Wednesday. He took trips to Florida State and Virginia earlier this week.
Lagway entered the 2025 season as a preseason Heisman contender, but the season didn’t go as planned for the Gators. He threw for 2,264 yards with 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Lagway struggled with some nagging injuries, and head Coach Billy Napier was fired midseason.
As a freshman, he threw for 1,915 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He took over for an injured Graham Mertz and led the Gators to an 8-5 season with four-straight wins over LSU, Ole Miss, Florida State and Tulane.
The former Gatorade Player of the Year totaled 5,558 yards of offense and 75 touchdowns during his senior season at Willis High School. During his three-year high school career, he threw for 8,393 yards, 101 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions, and he ran for 2,197 yards and 29 touchdowns.
His father, Derek, played running back at Baylor in the late 90s. He was also the No. 1 quarterback in the nation for the 2024 class and a five-star prospect, according to 247Sports.
Lagway is a consensus top 10 quarterback in the transfer portal and has two years of eligibility remaining.
