BREAKING: Maston to miss next month after surgery broken hand
Per Baylor official release, senior forward Terry Maston will miss at least the next month with a broken right hand. He will undergo surgery Thursday performed by hand, elbow and wrist specialist Dr. Scott Hecox of Southwest Sports Medine & Orthopedics.
Maston left Monday night's loss at Xavier with the injury as the team's leading scorer with 15 points, his fourth double-digit performance of the season and was third on the team in average scoring while averaging 7.7 rebounds.
This is the latest blow to Baylor's depth. Before the season started, transfer forward Leonard Allen took an indefinite leave of absence. Coach Scott Drew said he is welcome back when he feels ready but there are no reports of his return. Freshman guard Tyson Jolly has also been out but is expected to begin playing in December.
Freshman forward Mark Vital is likely to see more playing time in the wake of Maston's absence. Vital scored a season-high 11 point at Xavier in 20 minutes. Junior forward Jonathan Davis could also see extra minutes. He has eight minutes of court time all season, virtually all in the closing minutes of the first three wins of the season.
Forward Fred Gillespie is sitting out the season to satisfy NCAA transfer regulations.
