Baylor sophomore wide receiver Taz Williams Jr. suffered a collarbone injury during a fall camp practice and is expected to miss some time.
“He’s gonna have surgery on it, and he’ll be back in a couple of weeks,” head coach Dave Aranda said after Friday’s scrimmage. “He went up for a pass and fell down on his collarbone and broke it.”
Williams Jr. had put together a strong fall camp and was pushing for serious snaps behind the three expected starters at wide receiver: Louis Brown IV, Dre’lon Miller and Gavin Freeman.
The former four-star prospect had his senior season at Red Oak High School cut short due to a torn meniscus. That injury unfortunately bled into last fall, as Williams Jr. appeared in four games as a true freshman, making just one catch for 11 yards in his debut against Samford.
Baylor won a major battle for Williams Jr. over schools like Alabama, Auburn, Penn State, Texas, TCU, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Miami, USC and Georgia.
Prior to injuries derailing the last two years, Williams Jr. posted 1,251 yards and 14 touchdowns on 80 receptions as a junior at Red Oak, going along with 582 yards and five touchdowns during his sophomore season.
