Steven Lassan of Athlon Sports ranked the top 50 wide receivers in the country on Monday and included Baylor junior wide receiver Denzel Mims in the top 10 of his list. Mims, who caught 61 passes for 1,087 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore, checked in at No. 9 on the list.

9. Denzel Mims, Baylor
Baylor hit the reset button in coach Matt Rhule’s first season in the Waco, but the Bears are poised for marked improvement in 2018, especially with quarterback Charlie Brewer taking a step forward as a sophomore. Brewer and Mims connected frequently last season, as the Texas native ended the year with 61 catches for 1,087 yards and eight touchdowns. Mims posted 192 yards against Oklahoma and 132 versus West Virginia last fall.

Mims is one of 10 Big 12 receivers to make the list, joining Jalen McCleskey of Oklahoma State (47), TJ Vasher of Texas Tech (45), Jalen Reagor of TCU (40), Hakeem Butler of Iowa State (35), Collin Johnson of Texas (26), Gary Jennings of West Virginia (21), CeeDee Lamb of Oklahoma (15), Marquise Brown of Oklahoma (10), and David Sills of West Virignia (2).

Top 10

  1. AJ Brown, Ole Miss
  2. David Sills, West Virginia
  3. N'Keal Harry, Arizona State
  4. Deebo Samuel, South Carolina
  5. Anthony Johnson, Buffalo
  6. Penny Hart, Georgia State
  7. Stanley Morgan, Nebraska
  8. Kelvin Harmon, NC State
  9. Denzel Mims, Baylor
  10. Marquis Brown, Oklahoma

How long do you want to ignore this user?
He looked special in flashes last year, the size of Terrance Williams and some of the burst of Corey Coleman.

It's pretty impressive that only one B12 receiver is ranked ahead of Mims and I won't be shocked if Mims doesn't lead our team in receiving yards or catches.

If Platt comes back full on, maybe the best WR tandem in America.

Is a tandem really a thing anymore when you play Hurd and Sneed and a cast of others regularly as well?

We're definitely loaded at the position it seems, as deep as any Briles team ever was at wideout.

Just looking for results. Briles = results. Rhule = I sure hope so.

Jury is still out on him

I mean he was our main goto guy

Plenty of WRs in college have plenty of yards...but arent dominant

Mims ain't as good as Sills, but he's underrated on that list. Should have been 5th or 6th. And, please, stop the Platt overhype that happens every year. He's just not that good and nowhere close to the same league as Tevin Reese who could, you know, actually catch the football and use his speed. Mims and Hurd could form the most dominant receiver combo in the Big 12. Platt will have another underwhelming year to go with this entire career here.

Did you watch Platt last year before his injury? He turned the corner. I was not impressed by him the first two years either. His dropped balls have improved.

Reese was much better his final 2 seasons vs his first 2. It looks like Platt is the same.

Neither can carry a team, however their speed matches up well when there's a dominant WR on the field. Safeties have to play the deep ball every time Platt and Reese are on the field, which opens up the field for the dominant WR (Terrence Williams, Antwan Goodley, or Mims).
