Bowl Bound: Baylor defeats Texas Tech in season finale
ARLINGTON, Texas — Baylor defeated Texas Tech at AT&T Stadium on Saturday afternoon to earn bowl eligibility for the eighth time in the last nine seasons.
1st Quarter
The first drive of the game Baylor was able to get a sack and force 3rd and 12. But on that play McLane Carter threw a 54-yard touchdown pass thanks to a complete bust in coverage by the Baylor secondary. Baylor go the ball and drove down the field in nine minutes while converting on five third down plays. Denzel Mims capped off the drive with a 6-yard touchdown catch from Charlie Brewer. Texas Tech drove right back down the field but Baylor got a stop forcing a 42-yard field goal by Texas Tech.

On 3rd & 16 at the Texas Tech 23, Charlie Brewer rolled out of the pocket and found Chris Platt in traffic for a gain of 19 yards. Baylor would score a touchdown just a few plays later.

2nd Quarter
Baylor had the ball to start the 2nd quarter. The Bears drove down the field and Charlie Brewer hit Tyquan Thornton with a 41-yard bomb for the touchdown. Texas Tech drove down the field thanks to a pass interference call and a 32-yard reception on 3rd down. They scored on a 7-yard touchdown run by Demarcus Felton. Charlie Brewer threw an interception trying to hit Denzel Mims on the sideline. Texas Tech took over in great field position but the Baylor defense stood tall and forced a punt. Baylor drove into Texas Tech territory before having a false start that killed momentum, the Bears punted. Baylor forced and punt and got the ball back with a chance to score points but a false start and a sack put the drive back. Baylor tried a hail mary with one second left that was picked off and returned all the way to the 20 but the Bears stopped a potential touchdown.
Highlights
On 1st & 10 at the Tech 41, Brewer rolled back and took a deep shot down the sideline where Tyquan Thornton had torched his defender. The result was an easy long touchdown for the Bears.

3rd Quarter
The Bears moved right down the field to start the half, going 75 yards in just over a minute. Baylor got a stop on the next drive but Harrison Hand had a great chance at an interception that he couldn’t handle. Baylor drove right down the field on the next drive that went 67 yards and was capped off by a John Lovett 3-yard touchdown run. The Bears gave up a big kick off return but were able to hold the Red Raiders to a field goal try that was missed. Baylor punted on the next drive.
Highlights
Baylor got the ball to start the second half and took a shot deep to Platt for 39 yards, that drive led to a Charlie Brewer short touchdown run.
After a stop, Charlie Brewer threw a strike to Denzel Mims down the sidelines for 27 yards, the drive was finished with a John Lovett touchdown run.

4th Quarter
Tech started the quarter inside the 10 and was able to get a touchdown pass by McLane Carter. Baylor got the ball and Charlie Brewer hit Chris Platt on a short pass and he took it 37 yards down the sideline. Denzel Mims finished the drive off with a 16-yard touchdown catch. On the next drive Raleigh Texada intercepted a pass by McLane Carter to TJ Vasher. Baylor got the ball with 9:36 to go in the 4th quarter and ran the clock down to 3:24. On Texas Tech’s drive BJ Thompson got a sack and Blake Lynch got an interception to close the game out.
Highlights
McLane Carter took a deep shot to TJ Vasher but Raleigh Texada was in perfect position, he went up and came down with the interception.
McLane Carter dropped back to throw the ball and Blake Lynch stepped in front for the interception.
