Like many, I wish we had a true PG. Chloe is a one-and-done due to her graduate transfer status. We've gotten so spoiled with an embarrassment of riches in that position for so long--Odyssey, Niya, and then Kristy. We need to fine tune one to carry us past this season. I like DiDi on defense, but she turns the ball over too much on offense. Moon has great potential; I keep seeing OS-level potential in her. As far as today's game, we were schooled by perhaps an underrated team that is consistently a top-25 program. It's a prime example of that oxymoron the football selection committee loves to use, a "good loss." Let's just hope we both keep on winning.

no one, certainly not me, questions KM greatness. but When see your season end the same way the last 6 years, aka talented teams hitting 3s when you can't/won't, if would seem you want to try something different. Today is the way the 2019 season will end if we can't/won't do something different.

But don't worry I will enjoy another 18-0 Big 12 title and conference tourney beatdown. But with our talent/coaching/history we can and should do better!

Stanford's motion offense was impressive today while BU's was stagnant. Stanford did a great job of blocking out and blocked some shots that surprised me. We just did too much standing around and we're too tentative in the first half. Cox simply did not show up to play today. Kim sat her butt on the bench because we were getting better production from Smith. The passing in this game was atrocious and that is UCONN's strong suit. Sure hope it turns around for this upcoming game.

Can't get over the ugly offense or lack thereof!

Too bad today, bet flight home will be quiet. Setshot lives in N. California, thinking he was at game, or watched on TV. Hello Setshot, we await your assessment and keen analysis of game!!!

First game I have been forced to listen to on the radio. This new crew is terrible. Kim has to really work on the radio broadcast. Very under par for a top program. Time to get Rick May healthy and back on the broadcast.

Sure was wanting someone else to bring this up. Gietzen (sp?) Is horrible.
I, also, am among those who are very glad someone else brought this up before I did. I've listened to a handful of games, some away games, some when I left the FC early to beat traffic, and have been very disappointed. I know it's a difficult gig and probably takes someone a while to get their sea legs, but I just don't see it improving. Sometimes it takes 2-3 minutes of play before they mention the score. They often have to search for very simple words, and just don't have good chemistry. If it doesn't get better, I would like to see them go with some younger talent. I'm sure there's even some students who study Film and Digital Media and Sports Marketing who could probably do a better job.

KOK, I was indeed at the game, and I have discussed my impressions elsewhere (on the WBBoard). My view is distinctly my own and subject to disagreement, but I sat right behind the Baylor bench and had a pretty good view of the action on and off the floor, so I am comfortable with the conclusions that I drew.

Just perused the game discussion to get a feel for the game.

Did Lady Bears get screwed every whistle and every possession some way and every call (or non call) one-sided or poor? Or, did they just get beat?

The running comments first 3 pages slammed almost every call and/or play. Must have been awful.

IMO the refs were about as expected on the road. Stanford deserved to win based on how they played today. Our pitiful second quarter was too much to overcome.

It is way too early to be thinking this way, but if Morris returns next year at her previous level we will be better able to deal with teams that try to beat us in this fashion. Replacing Brown with Smith will bring a lot more athleticism on defense, and having a true PG in Morris will enable us to do a bit more on offense while hopefully minimizing turnovers. We will also be able to deploy 4-5 three point threats on the floor at the same time. If Kim chooses to use them in this way they could be dynamic on both ends of the floor.
Agree! This team is missing a true PG and the 3pt threat that Morris was. The game is changing to a more fast paced game with more 3's. I think we see a change in our team next year towards this. In the meantime, you have to go thru Kalani, but she's got to play better. We have several freshmen that need playing time that will give us a better 3pt % in the years to come.

The reason we lost is the same reason we lost every March for last 6 years. Talented team shots 3s always will beat in a big game on road or netural, which is NCAA. Today we actually shot 7 3s, high for us, made 3. Stanford makes 13, beats us by 5. Do the math.

Same story every March. We overwhelm less talented teams, see Big 12, will get beat in the end of the year by talented teams who can shoot the 3.

Either KM can't see this or doesn't care. Both are concerning.
We don't have experienced 3pt shooters.

from the broadcast "Juicy Landrum is a 44% 3-point shooter, you can't leave her open."

Kim.

She needs to put up 12 a game. you have enough power and height to get half the rebounds.

on the broadcasters. Lori Fogelman is surely somewhat still involved. It's an incredibly poor team. I won't listen again and it's amazing to me that they ever go by any sort of filtering.

POLL IMPLICATIONS

"Baylor will most likely fall out of the top five but isn't likely to drop much further than sixth. Stanford should move up in the top 10 following its most impressive win this season but isn't likely to jump over No. 9 Tennessee."

There are teams that may be able to beat us with threes, but Texas ain't one of them. Currently shooting 1 of 16 at the half against Stetson. I would be surprised if we don't run the table in the conference again.

The second half would have been fun to watch had they not laid such an omelet in the 1st half. I mean they didn't lay an egg, it was a big ole slimy omelet. The 3rd qtr was even steven. Just gained one point on them. And waited too late even in the 4th to start the rally. But I'm glad they at least made it respectable. At half it was looking like it might be a 30 point blowout.

Hi, Slimecap:

Your attendance numbers are accurate because they also include tickets sold, even if no one was there, but my best guess of butts in seats is 1400 - 1500. There probably would have been more people there, but students had departed for the holidays. There was on pep band and no 'tree'.

What was amazing about the campus were the cranes--there must be at least 6 large buildings going up, all within a small distance of each other.

And finally, for what it's worth, many refer to the 'blue hairs' that attend the Lady Bear games.....rest assured the demographics attending the Stanford games is no different.....

When you have a stable full of thoroughbreds, sometimes you got to let them run. The Lady Bears are so talented from an athletic standpoint. I say let them play a little street ball on occasion and then reign them in. The opponents are locked in on our offensive sets and their defense is what made that first half so ugly at Stanford. I wonder is Juicy actually has the green light to shoot 12 treys in the game.

Baylor had two losses last year alone (UCLA and Oregon State) where both teams shot under 50% and still won.

It can't be right unless there was a caveat that went unsaid.
Lone Star

Fluke loss. We should have beat them but, our shooting was horrible in first half.

I don't think you will ever see another team win a game shooting better from 3-point line (43%) then FT line (42%) with minimum of 20 attempts from each (30 attempts from 3 point line and 21 attempts from Free throw line) WHILE getting out rebounded (Baylor 43 boards, Stanford 30 boards).

I knew it would be a competitive game because Stanford has twice stopped winning streaks by UCONN with upsets on their own floor. They are very well coached and usually don't beat themselves, and they always shoot the three effectively. Baylor was coming off an extended layoff from competition and from Final Exams, and was on a fun trip to the Bay Area while Stanford was at home in their regular routine of preparation. This is not an excuse for the first three quarters of play, when Stanford dominated the Lady Bears for the most part, but I recall vividly the difficulties that my fellow players and I experienced under similar circumstances. The psychological hurdles are greater than one might expect, particularly for young players.

Stanford got premium minutes from their 6'5" interior player, Coffee, who had previously averaged one point in a little over four minutes per game. I have posted elsewhere that I watched her shoot clanger after clanger in warm up time and she did not appear to be much of an offensive player, nor did she have much mobility. Lo and behold, she played a highly effective 18 minutes against Baylor, made nine points on three successful three point attempts, including a dagger three in the last two minutes when we were staging our comeback that restored the lead to ten points. Interestingly enough, in the past two years she has totaled 48 points, but 23 of them have come against Baylor. That is one of the more striking oddities of the sport that I have seen in a long time.

Twice in the last minute and a half, down by seven points, Baylor allowed the Cardinal to take almost the entire shot clock before shooting, rather than sending a team that had made only 9 of 21 shots at the foul line back there. The result was that Baylor got off a total of two shots and two free throws in the last 2:58 minutes, and a valiant comeback was stymied. Too little and too late seems dismissive, and I don't intend it so, but this was going to be a difficult game; Stanford beat Baylor in Griner's senior year in Hawaii when Sims went down with an injury in the first quarter, and they did it just like they did on Saturday, by taking away the interior game and daring the Lady Bears to beat them elsewhere.

Incidentally, we ran a double screen along the baseline for Landrum in the late fourth quarter rally and she was wide open for a successful three point shot from the corner. With the size of Baylor's interior and the heavy traffic that they command there, that shot for Landrum, Ursin or for that matter, Jackson, would likely be open more times than not. Mississippi State beat Baylor in an overtime game two years ago by running that same play over and over again, and we never adjusted and stopped it.

I see no reason why the Lady Bears could not utilize the same type of multiple screens ("elevator screens") along the baseline or out over the top as the Warriors do for Curry, and force teams to think about something other than choking the paint to stop our big players. Landrum has the same type of energy and movement that Curry has, relatively speaking and she is an excellent three point shooter. I would like to see her taking at least eight to ten shots a game, and I have little doubt that given the green light to shoot that she would have many games of four to six made threes with a 40% or better average. She is probably the nearest thing to Emily Niemann from the arc that we have had, and that covers almost a decade and a half of Lady Bear basketball.

An issue that we have all mentioned at some point is the poor attendance for WBB games. Baylor against Stanford ought to see a packed house but it wasn't. South Carolina has great home attendance but most of the other WBB programs have room for improvement. Baylor does pretty well, but we could do better. These student athletes deserve better support at school after school.

I watched the game on Saturday and I believe the Lady Bears were out played in the first half, and they dug themselves a big of a hole to get out of.

Baylor outplayed Stanford in the 2nd half, so I was very pleased to see that. Lauren being ill played a big role in our loss. She is a key player and only scored 2 points, and played like 14 minutes. NOT GOOD. Wish her a speedy recovery.

I try to be a very positive individual, so I want to take away the fact that we have some very talented basketball players. Very proud of the freshmen......

I truly respect CKM, and I know that CKM and the coaching staff have watched the tape over and over from Saturday. I can guarantee you that they will make some adjustments, and the Lady Bears will come out fighting from here on out.

Let us not forget these are 18-22 yr old students, that just had FINALS this last week so to be down by 20+ and only loose by 5... I SAY SICEM......

Merry Christmas to everyone.
