WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s golf head coach Jay Goble announced Thursday that Lamar’s Elodie Chapelet has signed a Financial Aid Contract and will enroll at Baylor as a grad transfer this summer.

Chapelet, who is currently ranked No. 152 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, will join the Bears with one year of eligibility remaining for the 2019-20 season. She is a two-time All-Southland Conference honoree, a 2018 Southland Conference All-Academic first-team selection, the 2017 Southland Golfer and Freshman of the Year and a 2017 WGCA All-American Scholar.

Chapelet has led Lamar in stroke average in each of her three seasons with the Cardinals, posting a 73.92 mark across 25 rounds as a redshirt freshman in 2016-17, a 73.96 mark over 26 rounds as a sophomore in 2017-18 and a 72.45 mark through 11 rounds as a junior this season. Through her first two and a half seasons at Lamar, Chapelet has a 73.73 stroke average across 62 rounds, and she has played 18 of 62 rounds at par or better.

A Souraide, France, native, Chapelet has won five individual tournament championships, recorded 17 top-5 finishes and finished top-11 individually in all 22 collegiate tournaments through two and a half seasons. She finished top-5 in all nine tournaments during her redshirt freshman season, including tournament titles in the 90-player Bob Hurley ORU Shootout, the 55-player Bearkat Women’s Invitational, the 66-player Ball State Sunshine Invitational and the 50-player Cardinal Challenge. She was named 2017 Southland Conference Golfer and Freshman of the Year.

Following her freshman season, Chapelet won two tournaments in her native France. She recorded a four-stroke victory at the Grand Prix De Chiberta with scores of 65, 70, 69 and 68 for a 72-hole total of 272. Two weeks later, she claimed the title at the Grand Prix des Landes with rounds of 69, 71, 68 and 65 to record a dominating 11-stroke victory with a 72-hole total of 273.

Chapelet returned to Beaumont for her 2017-18 sophomore season and recorded one tournament title, six top-five finishes and eight top-10 results out of nine events played. She finished top-5 individually in six of nine tournaments during her sophomore season, including a tournament title at the 70-player ULM Fred Marx Invitational.

Following her sophomore season, Chapelet played in the Ladies’ British Open Amateur and tied for the lead in the stroke play portion, including a first-round 68 that was two strokes better than anyone else in the 144-player field.

During the fall portion of her 2018-19 junior season at Lamar, Chapelet has finished top-6 individually in all four tournaments. She placed fourth at both the Bearkat Women’s Invitational and the Little Rock Classic and took sixth place in both the USA Intercollegiate and the Fred Marx Invitational. She was named the September 2018 Southland Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month.

Chapelet joins Anika Veintemilla Burgos of Guayaquil, Ecuador, who signed a National Letter of Intent with Baylor in November, to give BU two golfers in its 2019 signing class. Maria Vesga is the lone graduating senior on the 2018-19 Baylor squad, and the Bears’ current top two players in stroke average – Gurleen Kaur and Diane Baillieux – are both sophomores.

Baylor returns to action at the Icon Invitational, which runs Feb. 25-26 at The Woodlands (Texas) Country Club. Fans can also catch BU in the Lone Star State when the Bears play in the Bruzzy Challenge at Lantana (Texas) Golf Club on April 1-2.
