With the season draw near, Athlon Sports examined the win totals set by Caesar's Sportsbook for what they think of the Big 12 for the 2019 season. Author Matt Joseph’s ran through the entire 10-team league and which teams would meet or fall short of the totals.

Here is what Joseph’s had to say about your Bears this fall:

Baylor Bears
Over 7 wins -145...Under 7 wins +125
Non-Conference Games: Stephen F. Austin, UTSA, at Rice

Matt Rhule continues to have Baylor going in the right direction after a six-win improvement last year. In year three he's got eight starters back on offense led by Charlie Brewer under center and running back JaMycal Hasty and wide receiver Denzel Mims as his primary weapons. The loss of Jalen Hurd will hurt a bit as he was the leading receiver in 2018. The defense needs to force more turnovers considering they had just seven interceptions and three fumble recoveries. This unit returns six starters. The schedule features Oklahoma and Texas coming to Waco in November.

Verdict: I came up with eight wins so the line move is right. Once again, shop around and maybe you can find a better price.

Polls and predictions are always fun. We all love 'em, even the players and coaches. College football really is great fun, but most people have no idea how much work it truly takes.... Anyway, looking back on that last year, it was very impressive how rarely Baylor fumbled. It turned out to be crucial, as our defense did not generate many turnovers. Looking forward, these two things won't be overlooked by our opponents. But this year there is one big difference. Our defense, next month, will be going up against a much better offense. That alone is a huge advantage!!! Also, one thing I've noticed over the years(and I hope the coaches are keen to this) is the number of injuries in the first 10 -18 practices. Yes, it's a part of the game and it does help motivate young guys, who see an opportunity. But, we still don't have crazy depth, although we are pretty solid. I kinda hope players and fans take it one down at a time. Also, from our experience last year, I was pretty impressed with our second half adjustments on both sides of the ball. I'm pretty juiced for this year. SIC 'EM BEARS!!!!!!

We were still - in the turnover margin category though, meaning we gave away more than we took. I believe we were -9 on the season, meaning our opponents took it 9 times more than we took it from them.

Yes. You are correct, we were minus for the season. However, minus 9 for the season is less than minus 1 per game. In retrospect, a plus .500 season in which you were minus 9 is commendable. Put it like this: What kind of season would we have had with nine turnovers for a net zero? Sure, it depends on which games, timing, momentum, etc... So looking forward, no doubt staying plus in turnovers could lead to a fine season..I submit they are much more important in big games..... Intrinsically, players need to have their technique down pat... Then, the turnovers follow. Big game or not....As every player and coach, not necessarily fan, knows, every game is BIG!
