The Big 12 went unbeaten in the first week of the season. Find out who had big performances, who slumped, and what teams made a big move in the power rankings.

Iowa State held on to beat Northern Iowa 29-26 3OT

What went wrong? The Cyclones were 7-of-18 on 3rd down and lost the turnover battle. The 463 yards they put up did not translate to the scoreboard.

What went right? The defense had three sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and only gave up 34 yards on the ground.

Key Stats

*Iowa State held UNI to 1.1 yards per carry.

*Wide receiver Deshaunte Jones had 14 receptions for 126 yards.

Oklahoma State throttled Oregon State 52-36

What went wrong? Oregon State racked up 448 yards of total offense and 36 points. The Beavers only scored 36 or more points twice last year.

What went right? The offense is going to be good. Freshman QB Spencer Sanders got his key weapons involved and it led to 555 total yards.

Key Stats

*Chubba Hubbard had 221 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

*Freshman QB Spencer Sanders had 300 yards of total offense and three scores.

Kansas survived against Indiana State 24-17

What went wrong? The Jayhawks were out-gained 365 to 344, lost the turnover battle 3 to 2, and lost the time of possession battle. The Jayhawks had four fumbles.

What went right? Quarterback Carter Stanley played well, the Jayhawks won without Pooka Williams, and they were outplayed yet still won.

Key Stat

*Carter Stanley was 20-of-29 for 241 yards and threw two touchdowns.

West Virginia survived against James Madison 20-13

What went wrong? The Mountaineers were out-gained 328 to 294 and they were only 6-of-18 on 3rd down conversions.

What went right? The Mountaineers forced three turnovers and transfer QB Austin Kendall had a solid performance.

Key Stats

*Austin Kendall was 27-of-42 and had 260 plus two touchdowns.

*WVU ran for 34 yards and averaged 1.4 yards per carry, yikes

Texas Tech impresses in a win over Montana State 45-10

What went wrong? Not much but they did lose the turnover battle.

What went right? The offense and defense were firing on all cylinders. The offense put up a whopping 691 yards on 95 plays. The defense only gave up 289 yards.

Key Stats

*Alan bowman picked up where he left off as he was 40-of-53 for 436 yards and three touchdowns.

*Tech ran for 255 yards on 40 carries.

Baylor pounds Stephen F. Austin 56-17

What went wrong? Almost nothing but nitpicking 6.8 yards per pass is a little low.

What went right? Everything. This game was 42-7 with 13:40 left in the 3rd quarter.

Key Stats

*The Bears had 268 yards on the ground and averaged an absurd 7.2 yards per carry.

*Baylor was 8-of-13 on 3rd down conversions.

Kansas State destroys Nicholls 49-14

What went wrong? The Wildcats had a great overall day on defense but they were not very disruptive as they only had two tackles for loss, zero sacks, and two QB hurries.

What went right? The Wildcats had 361 yards on the ground and averaged 6.2 yards per carry to go along with five touchdowns.

Key Stats

*Skylar Thompson was 16-of-22 for 212 yards and two touchdowns.

*41 minutes of time of possession for the Wildcats

Texas rolls over Louisiana Tech 45-14

What went wrong? The Longhorns gave up 413 yards of total offense.

What went right? Texas put up 454 yards of offense and forced three turnovers.

Key Stats

*Ehlingher was very good as he went 28-of-38 for 276 yards and four touchdowns.

*Texas only gave up 73 yards on the ground.

TCU runs over Arkansas- Pine Bluff 39-7

What went wrong? Pine Bluff lost to South Dakota State 90-6 last year so this is embarrassing that they only beat them by 32.

What went right? Both quarterbacks were serviceable and led the offense to enough points to win this game easily.

Key Stats

*TCU had seven fumbles, only two lost.

*Linebacker Grant Wallow had 13 tackles, one sack, and 3.5 tackles for loss

Oklahoma impresses in a win over Houston 49-31

What went wrong? The defense gave up 408 total yards and 5.7 yards per carry. The Sooners also turned the ball over twice.

What went right? Jalen Hurts debut was ridiculous. He had 508 yards of total offense, six touchdowns, and only three incompletions.

Key Stats

*9.6 yards per carry and 354 total rushing yards for the Sooners.

*13.8 yards per pass which is very similar to what they have been doing over the past few years.

Power Rankings

1. Oklahoma - We know their limitations on defense. Their main question mark was Jalen Hurts and the offensive line, both of those looked really good week one.

2. Texas - Looked really impressive week one and did not look ahead to a big time matchup against LSU this week.

3. Baylor - Dominant performance on both sides of the ball when the starters were in the game.

4. Oklahoma State - Went on the road and beat a Power Five team. Spencer Sanders looks to have taken over the reigns nicely at quarterback.

5. Iowa State - Tough start to the year but a huge rivalry matchup against Iowa will give them a chance to move up the rankings.

6. TCU - Not impressed week one so they dropped a little bit. If they don’t play better this weekend they will drop.

7. Kansas State - Great start and performance by the Wildcats. If this run game keeps humming they will be tough to beat.

8. Texas Tech - The offense can still put up points and they were much more balanced than in the past at least in week one.

9. West Virginia - Barely beat a very good FCS team, they need to work on the run game big time.

10. Kansas - Far from impressed with the survival over the Sycamores but they get Pooka back this week.
