Matt Rhule Quote of the Week...
“I don’t pay attention to it you know I don’t address it you know I try to model for our players and I really believe, it’s not just something I say, I really believe it. I’m the same guys at 5-0 that I was at 0-5 and I know that you’re only as good as your next game so we are deeply committed to just trying to go 1-0 this week and I think if our team’s learned anything they’ve learned that and it really helps to have a bunch of seniors who were on a team that was 6-0 then struggled so they know like you know what it’s all about this week, we didn’t work all year to be 5-0 and No. 23 in the country, that’s not the high point, if this is the high point, then we had a bad year so we’re going to fight to just try to be 1-0 this week, the best thing that we have is you just got to turn the tape on and see what Texas Tech did and you know Oklahoma State is a great football team and for Texas Tech to take the ball away like they did, to get to the quarterback the way that they did on defense and then for them to just literally throw the ball the way they did it’s a real challenge and so our players are off today and I’m getting texts from players talking about this, that, about the football and that’s my biggest thing I always want it to be about the football, I don’t want it to be about the uniforms, I don’t want it to be about the crowd, I don’t want it be about anything other than the football for our players, for everybody else it should be about everything else, the pageantry of college football, but for our guys it’s about block him, just block him, do your job man and so we’re trying to just always get it back to that.”
Baylor’s Key Players
Quarterback #12 Charlie Brewer — Brewer will always be a key player in every single game because it’s the Big 12 and most times the team that wins the Big 12 has the best quarterback in the league.
Offensive Lineman #79 Casey Phillips — The 6-5, 303-pound lineman came in for the injured Connor Galvin last weekend during the Kansas State game and he did a relatively good job.
Linebacker #2 Blake Lynch — The senior linebacker had his most complete performance of the season last weekend against Kansas State as he finished with seven tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Safety #22 JT Woods — Woods will get a start most likely against Tech this weekend due to Chris Miller’s targeting suspension. Look for Woods to have an opportunity early for an interception in this one.
Texas Tech’s Key Players
Quarterback #7 Jett Duffey — Well the good Jett Duffey showed up against Oklahoma State as he forced the Cowboys for 424 yards and four touchdowns.
Wide receiver #9 TJ Vasher — The 6-6, 210-pound junior receiver has been a big part of the Texas Tech offense for the last three years as he has racked up 109 catches, 1,599 yards, and 16 touchdowns in 25 games.
Linebacker #1 Jordyn Brooks — The star defensive player for the Red Raiders is Jordyn Brooks. He is basically the Clay Johnston of their defense and the most irreplaceable player on their roster in my opinion.
Safety #3 Douglas Coleman — When you lead the nation in a good statistical category you are doing something right. The 6-1, 200-pound safety has five interceptions on the season which is the most in college football right now.
