Former LSU DL coach Dennis Johnson to join Dave Aranda's staff at Baylor

One of the most recognized recruiters in the country, Dennis Johnson is expected to join Dave Aranda’s staff at Baylor, SicEm365 has learned. After three years as an on-field assistant, Johnson spent the 2019 season as an analyst after leg injuries prevented him from being able to coach on the field.

Baylor has not confirmed the hiring of Johnson at the time of this report.

Johnson began his time on the field for the Tigers in 2016 coaching the outside linebackers, but was  promoted in 2018 and began coaching the defensive line. Johnson was replaced by Bill Johnson for the 2019 season after sustaining injuries.

Johnson worked under new Baylor head coach and then LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda for four seasons at LSU from 2016-2019. Prior to his full-time position in Baton Rouge, Johnson worked as a grad assistant at Northwestern State (2012-2013) and at LSU (2014-2015).

An LSU alum, Johnson played on the defensive line as a backup in 19 games over three years, finishing his career with 11 tackles and 1.0 tackle for loss. A three-year letterwinner for LSU from 2009-11, Johnson joined the Tigers in 2008 after transferring from Itawamba Community College in Mississippi.

According to his LSU profile, Johnson “is noted as talented recruiter with an innate ability to land big-time recruits. He has played a pivotal role in LSU’s last three signing classes.”

Colt announced this too soon. If the guy is on a LSU recruiting trip, his Twitter is still LSU, he doesn't acknowledge leaving, and the Baylor coaches aren't saying anything on twitter, then it was too soon. I hope Colt didn't give LSU a chance to persuade him to stay.

He's not actively on the LSU staff or under contract. Bill Johnson is the current DL coach at LSU. Dennis Johnson was injured and couldn't coach, but he was given a voucher by the NCAA to still recruit.

He never said it was a done deal. And wouldn't you think he would tell LSU he was leaving and if they wanted him they'd try to counter? Apparently they are trying to do just that. Would love to have him for the recruiting savvy though. But still up in the air if we can secure him.

So did this Defensive Analyst ever decide to go with us or did he stay with LSU?

I think this might be a day after national signing day deal. I don't have anything to base that on - just a guess

It may be premature, but I'm certainly impressed with staff that CDA is constructing. Quality, recruiting, etc is looking very promising.

Dang guys, Coach Grande is building a Dadgum fortress of football. A corporate structure of analysts for O and D to research, organize, plan, and then the coaches to implement. Coach is building at Baylor what makes great teams sustainable. Now, just need an OC. This is how it's done boys.
