The FTs bite us in the butt

Killed ourselves with missed free throws and missed open looks today.

Going to have to win out the rest of the way now (not easy) and hope TTech somehow gets KU in Lubbock (not likely but still possible). Starts with not having an emotional let down against KSU this coming Tuesday.

Freddie has a wide open shot from the elbow at 3:50 to make it a one point game and missed....then Mitchell had the wide open 3 to make it a 2 point game with 50 seconds left and missed.

The chances were there....just didn't cash in

Loss in on Mitchell. Awful today.

That isn't even remotely true, his defense alone has saved possessions and kept us in this ****ing game. Has his shooting been terrible, definitely, but his defense has been amazing and like Mark Vital who also doesn't get us points very often.

I would hope a guard like him would score more yes, but you can't underestimate the impact he's had on this game defensively.

issue would be is we can't have two players on the floor constantly who aren't scoring

Missed FTs our undoing. Along with Azabuike's 8 fouls

That was a terrible set at the end, but at least he got the shot off.

Mitchell played Awesome defensively but he hurt us on the offensive end, just look at the box score

You are talking just Newell right?

If the AP and Coaches drop us to 4 after today they need their votes stripped from them.

Again... you don't understand basketball at all then I'm afraid.

Could he have shot better yeah, but he saved more points off defense than he could have made so you have already lost any argument from the start.

Just looking at a box score tells a fraction of the story of that game.

We lost it at the FT line and the fact that Freddie, Vital, Clark, and at times Mayer couldn't stop Azubuike from dunking the whole ****ing game.

Problem is that we got dominated down low and we had a lot of offensive liabilities in the lineup at any given time. Vital cannot score other than dunks, Gillespie isn't going to give you more than a few buckets. Mitchell was ice cold and Teague was hurt. Leaves you with the Butler show.

Love his defense but 2-11 from Mitchell will not cut it. And we need to figure out a better strategy down low if Gillespie gets overwhelmed. Azubuike with 23 and 19. Ugh.

You can chalk this up to missed shots and FT's and we've been able to survive but not vs. KU. EVERY POSSESSION WAS PRECIOUS DOWN THE STRETCH. Freddie missed a wide open 14 ft're. Butler misses the front end of a 1 and 1, but credit this team for making KU earn the heck out of it.

I agree we should have fouled Bazooka away from the ball but you run the risk of it being called intentional which makes no sense.

On the last shot by Butler he should have leaned into Dotson so his momentum is going toward the bucket and it would have been an easier shot plus a chance for a foul and 3 FTs.

But I'm kinda glad the streak is over. Now let's just win the remainder with no pressure and see how we get seeded. I do not know what the tiebreaker is but 1 or 2 really doesn't matter.

And that doesn't even count the 4 or more we would have had the opportunity to get if we had made the front end of the one and ones.

Yep, I agree Mitchell was needed and so was Bandoo. Not enough 3's made today. Think back on a few wasted possessions. That was the difference. Heck of a run we made at the end. Am so proud of these guys. They will learn from this and wouldn't it awesome to play KU again in the FF. There is a better than 50/50 chance of that happening.

I guess that I don't understand, however I can do math, and on the offensive end he was a liability today

I counted at least 8 times Kansas big guy was in the lane more than 6 seconds. I'm surprised someone on Baylor's bench did not point that out to the officials before the second half. Often he made no effort to move.

As tired as he was at the end I would have fouled him. Like with Vital, his ability to make free throws can haunt Kansas in tournament games.

We make our free throws and we win.

Two great teams.

No reason to hang out heads.. It was a ballsy effort and they'll study this tape. Our switching D comes to a halt with Bazooka and this is the same type issue we will run into if Gonzaga ever gets to us. Nothing but bigs all over the place. I know we don't care who we switch on but KU was very patient and just waited til a guard had to take him even for a few seconds and they exploited it very well. Hats off to Self. he is a heck of a coach.

We can still win a share of the Big12 title.

We can still win the Big12 tournament.

We can still be a #1 seed.

Learn and move on. Way to not quit today Bears!

Mitchell best is when he scores in transition, but he is a good facilitator. Butler had to be a star today and he just was a bit short of that. Otherwise I have no complaints although I think Mayer might have been a better offensive choice down the stretch than Mitchell....today only. Time for Mayer to step into the spotlight.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I thought the officiating was decent overall. The officiating did not cost us this game. We lost this game missing foul shots, and by inability to find an answer for Azumbuke-who we held to 6-points at Phogg- hard to understand. But, our guys played hard, and I'm disappointed with the outcome, but not the effort.

This was "explained" by the announcing crew. Dotson was not playing much in Lawrence and we were playing against 3 guards, allowing us to double team "A". With the four "smalls" today we couldn't do that. That was expected even before the game.

Mitchell was fantastic defensively, but he does need to get better on the offensive end. We can't afford to play 3-on-5 against a team like Kansas, and that was what we were doing today with Mitchell and Vital on the floor together.

I love both of those guys, by the way. But Mitchell has to be more of an offensive threat than he was today for us to win those kinds of games.
