Baylor (1-4) is back on the road again to face off against Texas Tech (2-5) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT in a game that will be aired on FS1.

A year after a controversial ending to the 2019 contest between Baylor and Texas Tech in Waco, the Bears hit the road to Lubbock in what will be a game that could be the turning point for both programs in 2020. 

After a season opening victory over Kansas, the Bears have struggled to find consistency in the stretch of four-straight losses that followed. As for the Red Raiders, Matt Wells’ teams has seen it all: a very close call to Houston Baptist, an overtime loss to Texas after having a 15-point lead with 3:13 remaining in regulation and blow out losses to Iowa State, Oklahoma and TCU. Oh, and a random win over West Virginia right in the middle. 

But the paths to the current records have been quite different. While Baylor has worked through a scheme change on offense and defense under new head coach Dave Aranda while dealing with three game cancellations and postponements because of COVID, Tech has struggled under their second-year head who has tried to build on a 4-8 2019 season that was scalped by four losses by three points or less.

That included a double-overtime loss to the Bears where a fumble that was recovered by the Red Raiders in the first extra period was ruled an illegal snap. If both teams were in the position they had hoped this fall, that specific play would likely be getting much more attention leading up to kickoff.

The internal issues for both programs at this juncture in the season are more pressing, however. While Texas Tech plans to play two quarterbacks against the Bears tomorrow, Aranda’s defense will be dealing with the challenge of replacing their leading rusher and their best defender, Sqwirl Williams and Terrel Bernard, who were both lost for the season due to injury last Saturday against Iowa State. 

Needless to say, something has to give for the teams that have a combined record of 3-9.

Baylor vs. Texas Tech Prediction

Neither team is looking strong this year but both are probably 3-4 win teams in a “normal” year at this point.  Both teams have dynamic skill guys, inconsistency at QB, and line issues.   One team forces turnovers, doesn’t massively lose the field position battle, and shows more ability to impact the opposing offense.

Baylor wins one that’s close.

He didn't make the trip to Lubbock, and he hasn't played but for about 2 plays this year, I think there's at least a 90% chance he is portal bound, and if he doesn't play, despite being a better player (Zeno), why would he stay? Remember, Gerry was a top recruit out of Arkansas - doubt he appreciates not getting any time in this atrocious year when we need to be building experience for the long-term future of the team

Fact- Baylor is officially the worst team in the Big 12, Kansas doesn't count. because of Aranda's pitiful understanding of O, which I said he was, and Fedora's insistence on playing CB. We are 1-5 and not one other BU QB has taken a snap this year.
Fact- CB is done. He has one read , then runs. He is no longer capable of QBing a P5 team. A 4 year starter led his team to score 16 points. It is totally illogical and unexplainable why Aranda doesn't play others. This "gives us the best chance to win " idea is ridiculous. We're losing now. At least lose with the future. The pass plays CB doesn't make are killing us.

I dont necessarily thing Charlie has to be benched, but I can't see any reason why from this point forward other QBs shouldn't be getting some significant game reps. There is nothing much left to play for this season. It has to be early prep for 2021.

Aranda reminded me of STEAL at first, because it is readily apparent he is clueless and essentially learning on the job. But, I agree, we're not at the Steal years. I agree...both Zeno and Bohannan should have played in numerous games by now. I'm just not sure why nobody has any specific info on whether or not Bohannan is gone.

Look, for most teams in this league, outside of one or two on the top right now and then KU on the bottom, there is not a lot of difference between teams. There is little consistency. A handful of plays make a difference. When they go your way we get a season like last year, when they don't you get what we got today. We had several of these plays in this game (Brewers non-TD, the questionable holding on the last drive, the tipped pass on our last play, the non-safety, the bad luck on the Tech over the punter snap, etc.), had some last week as well. We are playing short-handed. Whether that is the coaches fault (somehow in an alternate reality) or just bad luck, it is what it is.

This season has just been a waste from the beginning from everything that has happened. It needs to end, forget it and move on and focus on the future, when you actually get a full year to plan and work. Then you can make a valid assessment.

There's not much different between last year's team and this year's team. We won four games last year we should have lost. This is the third 1-score loss we had this season. It sucks, but we weren't great last year, we just made a couple of plays. We aren't as bad as our record this year, we just missed a couple of plays.

Get off the bandwagon, please, if you think the coaching staff should be fired. I know when a team quits on their staff. This isn't that team.

We'll see how good they can be over the next few years. Maybe we'll be great. Maybe we won't. But this year won't tell the tale. I intend to hang tough and support the team.

There's not much different between last year's team and this year's team. We won four games last year we should have lost. This is the third 1-score loss we had this season. The "gives us the best chance to win" thing is just an excuse. The real reason is that there is probably some locker room tension on account of the whole losing every game thing going on, and Aranda is desperately hoping that Charlie can be the glue that holds the team together.

Everyone knows I'm Team Briles. I appreciate what Rhule did burt not what he left behind. Our defense is better.

I'm no fan of Fedora but do you realize how late coach was handed the reins? Also the lack of practice before we got started.

No one is blowing us out.

Do I like the results? No. But I hate *******s like you thinking you know what is best.

Part 2. Someone who realizes that Baylor was highly competitive under one guy.

You need a QB as a frosh that can do with RGIII did. Look at OU. What Baylor did last year was simply amazing and you're just spoiled.

Give Aranda a chance. Fedora? I dunno. You can have him.

Big shot? Hardly. Just a long suffering fan for seven decades. It does me and you no good to continue to whine about Aranda.

Have you noticed the ultra thousands of post on the UT boards to fire Herman. They have suddenly decided he isn't so bad. Sorta.

I have faith in Rhoades. No faith whatsoever in Baylor administration or BOD. Does that clear the air with who I am?
