As you can tell by the photo up top, this was a pretty emotional interview for the players, at least. Neither Lecomte or Motley really wanted to say much, understandably so. You could tell both felt responsible for the loss and could have done something different. Might be the kick they need.
Baylor Basketball
“Definitely, we weren’t as energized as we’ve been to start games. So coaches will figure out what we could have done better to make sure we could have done something else and obviously we change up whatever we thought was not working. Or next early game, maybe we change our routine a little bit.”
On getting beyond trying to make comebacks so consistently
“Can’t not rebound for a half, can’t not defend for a half. I mean, those are things we’ve done and again, some of it was definitely on us and some of it you got to credit Kansas State.”
On if the last seven seconds were drawn up right
“Oh yeah, no question. I mean, Mot in front of the rim? We’re all taking that. It wasn’t just one play that cost us the game. . . .People are gonna miss shots. We gotta control what we can control. That’s the offensive rebounding. That’s our turnovers which again was a problem, so we’re gonna focus on those things.”
“Just more energy, that’s it. We played great defense. Our man-to-man defense was great. The guys on the bench stepped it up.”
On if there was enough confidence for another comeback
“Of course, we came out with a more energy in the second half. That’s what we did, just fight, gets stops. We should have started that way.”
On Kansas State learning from last game against Baylor
“They adapted. They played better defense. But I just gotta step it up.
“I just gotta go dunk the ball [next time]. That’s about all I can tell you. If I went up to dunk it, it’d be another story.”
On K-State taking control of Baylor’s big guys
“They have great inside defense. They packed the paint pretty well making you make jump shots and that’s what they’re philosophy is.”
