What a crazy weekend in the Big 12. Texas puts up 69 in what could be Tom Herman’s last game, Or is it? Urban Meyer has reportedly told the Horns no. So welcome to “Wonder-land” where we all wonder what they will do. Texas Tech was nearly upset by KU meaning I have to comment on that game, and TCU made Oklahoma St look silly.

Oklahoma 27, Baylor 14

Let me get OU out of the way first. They looked good coming back from a COVID shutdown. Not as good as they have been, but that is also a credit to the Baylor defense. They have WVU coming up and I think that will likely be a blood bath.

Now to Baylor. The defense played their butts off. Holding that offense to 27 should keep you in any game, but the offensive line renders that impossible. I don’t want to hear another word about Charlie Brewer. Not one. Name me a QB in recorded history that could overcome what he has seen all year. I’ll wait. Since Clark Kent is not a real person, there is no one.

Dave Aranda said it today in his press conference. There is no depth, no competition and their top seven or so are backups at other spots. Larry Fedora deserves some criticism, sure, but you are asking a man to make a 12-course meal with a can of Beenie-Weenies and a bag of Funyuns. I know that is harsh, but let’s call it like it is. The offensive line is the reason that the offense is bad. Start and end there. Can they fix it this week for one last ride? Probably not. But they have managed two wins out of it and OSU is reeling.

Texas 69, Kansas State 31

Tom Herman did something this week that he has rarely done in four years at Texas. He gave the ball to his RBs. He let someone other than the QB shoulder the load for moving the ball, and guess what? IT WORKED. Imagine that. Four-star talent produced when given the opportunity. It also allowed Sam Ellingher to have one of his best passing performances in weeks. And it may have been too little too late for Tom. Or not. All in on a staff buyout for Herman and his staff is $25 million. I am not sure that it’s worth it for James Franklin or Mario Cristobal. Maybe it would have been for Urban Meyer, but that ship appears to have sailed. If this was his swansong, good on him for finally seeing the light. But like most people who are stubborn, doing things the way you should have happens too late or not at all.

Iowa State 42, WVU 6

This was an all-out beating. Iowa State is LEGIT. The world knows this now. And I can’t wait for the OU rematch. The Mountaineers were straight up out of gas at the end of this game. Breece Hall scored the easiest TD he will ever score because of it. Not much more to say here.

TCU 29, Oklahoma St 22

This game feels a little bit like karma for Cowboys fans mad about Baylor rescheduling their game in the wake of a COVID outbreak. The thought that they would be in the championship game before they had even waded past their waist in the conference pool was insulting and naive. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that nothing is certain. Our friends in Stillwater got out ahead of themselves. Maybe they called a psychic hotline and got ripped off. If that’s the case, I am sure there is a class action lawsuit you can be a part of. Hopefully, this will be a lesson for them.

Texas Tech 16, Kansas 13

I am not going to dive too much into this other than to say, Dear God. Tech remains listless. I, for one, believe they need to let Matt Wells clean house and reboot. But since that’s not how most of college football works, I am guessing they go in a different direction.

Final Thoughts:

  • If you have a criticism of any position on the Baylor offense without a number from 50-79, leave it in the box. I will get to them after we all collectively acknowledged that they are trying to climb Mt. Everest in a windbreaker.
  • Oklahoma can play defense and that should scare the entire country for the foreseeable future.
  • RBs can help you win. Tom Herman finally did it, but it feels like a one-off. Kind of like the Joker movie.
  • Iowa State is FEELING IT. Can Matt Campbell finish?
  • Urban Meyer said no to Texas. What is Plan B? Or C? Or was that the only plan?

Thanks for reading and have a great week!

We won 11 games last year with that offensive line minus one guy. The issue is coaching...offensive line and offensive coordinator.

Can someone please tell me the qualifications of Paul Catalina? From what I can find he is simply a talking head on a Internet Blog calling itself "Radio".
