Edit: Nevermind, I see that it's the two coaches who have never faced each other. This is the 5th time we've played UAPB and the first since 2004.

Agreed.

Shoot, if the game is out of hand early I hope he gives the deep bench a minute or two at the end the first half.

Happy to have a 7 footer but did Drew waste a scholarship on this Loveday cat? Seems like 6'8 or 6'9 guys that can run the floor, shoot and rebound are around every corner. Maybe he blossoms when he hits his twenties.

Drew's staff has had a pretty good record with bigs developing over their time here. Loveday is a little green, but he has pretty good mobility and a pretty soft touch for a big. Give him a year or two in the weight room and continuing to develop his skills and he could prove to be a great role player over his time here, maybe even more.

For years Drew carried 2-3 guys that were around 7'. Back ~2011 we had Perry Jones, J'Mison Morgan, Anthony Jones and that Croatian dude all pushing 7'. Think Jefferson was around 6'9.

National championship teams need to be able to create lots of different match-ups due to the different styles you run into on the way to the Natty. As you described, I really like the 6-8, 6-9 fast, supremely athletic types, but if you take a Loveday and develop him into a strong, power big at some point through the weight room and continued development, he becomes a vital cog in a National Championship run because you're gonna need that in at least one, if not more, of those type of games. Plus, he's pretty agile for a big.

The genus of Drew is he tends to get those that need work so they aren't "one and done." Just about every big we've had under Scott stays for four years. God I pray BU doesn't find a way to screw up our two successful basketball programs.

This staff made Josh Lomers into a contributor on an Elite 8 team. Nothing against Lomers, but he was never the most mobile of athletes. Loveday has skills at his size you can't teach, but he definitely needs seasoning. If this wasn't a free season, I'd imagine he'd be redshirting.

I would think he'll add 10-15 pounds this offseason and improve some in terms of lateral quickness and post moves. If he can do that, he's on pace to contribute in 2022-23, if not sooner.

That's a good point too. The blessing and curse of signing 5 stars and even 4 stars (like we have for next year) is that some come in and they're gone quickly. You need some players you're pretty sure are gonna be here for 4 years to help serve as a foundation that then allows you to absorb losses for anyone who departs quickly.
