Jake could easily be a coach one day, love the way he responds to the questions

Jake Lindsey and Ish Wanright preview Kansas with Coach Drew
Ish Wainwright & Jake Lindsey — Start-7:48
Coach Scott Drew — 7:49-End
“If not getting a technical come March Madness and we were in that lesson in Lubbock, then it’s been worth it. But if we put ourselves in that same position, then obviously it hadn’t. Hopefully we can learn from out mistakes and make sure we don’t hurt our team by doing anything we can control.”
On stopping the team from putting Kansas on a pedestal
“I think that familiarity going to [summer] camps with guys and different things like that, a lot of the teams have a lot of friends amongst them because they were on the same all-star teams or same camps together. I don’t think you really have that awe of players as you might have had back 10 of 15 years.”
On Al Freeman getting back his trust*
“I think Al’s responded in a very good way and it’s a situation that he’ll be able to help the team moving forward.”
On his message to Manu Lecomte following his technical foul
“Manu’s a team guy and he saw how much that affected our team, not just from them getting points and the momentum but him being out of the game. The good thing is he gets it, he understands and lessons you learn and feel the pain yourself, those are the ones that are the best lessons.”
On keeping Johnathan Motley a key component in double-teams
“The best thing we can do, is when he passes out and we have four-on-three opportunities, we gotta make people pay. The good thing is, hopefully we can do that and if you do, people can’t double-team anymore. If we’re not as successful taking advantage of those matchups, then obviously putting him in isolation opportunities or places where it’s harder for them to double and hopefully he can score in a quick manner.
*King McClure will still start in place of Freeman
“The whole game, actually. Gotta focus the whole game, not just the last five minutes of the game. When we’re up 10, keep going at ‘em and play like it’s our last game.”
On how the Tech loss is a learning experience for March
“Let’s say I go down, I mean, Jake can easily step in and play the three. Manu fouls out or gets taken like he did last time and fouled out, Jake, Al [Freeman], King [McClure], Chuck [Mitchell], can step in and we’ve been in that situation.”
On how disappointing the Tech loss is regarding winning the Big 12
“Extremely disappointing but we can’t let that game steer us a different direction. For now we have one goal until the postseason, but our goal is to win a Big 12 championship.”
On Al Freeman coming back to the team
“I don’t think he went anywhere, I see him everyday. It’s not welcoming him back. He’s still our brother. Just like our little brother went on vacation, that’s what it feels like.”
“Obviously, losing Manu hurts not only as a guy who creates shots but as a guy who knocks down shots. Leveraging his ability to shoot as a threat to the defense, he pulls defenders in different ways and does different things. And we got good looks after it, they didn’t go down but you gotta control making shots.”
On how the team has learned to respond to the refs
“Calls go your way, calls don’t go your way. It happens both ways. Refs like to be cheered, they don’t like to be booed. They’re human. You know, people make mistakes, it happens. The refs don’t lose us games, so how we responded, that was a big factor. Manu’s technical, maybe us worrying about not fouling, obviously you have to adjust to officials if they call it tight, call it loose. We could have handled it better. . . .If one loss now keeps us from one loss down the road in a bigger stakes because we handled the situation better, it will be worth it.”
On Al Freeman’s impact coming back to practice
“He provides a lot of experience and obviously this group is a pretty close-knit group so anytime you get a brother back, it’s a good feeling to have everyone back whatever their role may be. . . .I think he’s handled it about as well as you can imagine. He came in and he was very much about the team.”
