Scott Drew previews West Virginia and discusses Iowa State loss
On Manu Lecomte’s status
“We’ll wait and see game time but he re injured that ankle in the beginning of the second half at Iowa State. He wasn’t good at the beginning of the game there either.”
On the effect of not having him on the floor at Iowa State
“It hurt not having him at full-strength at the beginning of the game because defensively, he gave up some shots he probably wouldn’t have but we’re a much better team obviously when we have any of our players healthy out there.”
On possibly missing Lecomte
“It helps that we’ve had games where Manu hasn’t played. Texas Tech where he fouled out, other games, Louisville. At the same time we’ll see game time where he’s at and how it feels. But Chuck (Mitchell) played well against West Virginia in West Virginia, that gave him some experience and confidence.”
On the loss at West Virginia
“We already been there, done that, tried to set an NCAA record for turnovers. Hopefully we got that out of our system.”
On what makes the Mountaineers’ press so difficult
“First of all, you don’t see it a lot. Second of all, their players. They play a lot of guys, so they’re fresh, their constantly harassing you. They’ve got players that are long, athletic. They have great buy-in. They believe in it.”
On what Ish Wainwright has meant to him the past four years
“I think Ish is one of those guys that sacrifices anything and everything for the betterment of the team. When you have a leader like that, it’s hard for other players to complain about minutes, shots, whatever. Because he’s such an unselfish leader and somebody that after a loss, you’re gonna see some tears in his eyes ‘cause he just leaves it all out there.”
